That is a dated third-party snapshot, not an official Activision ranking or a guarantee that one gun is best for every map, build, or player. This guide focuses on Multiplayer; Zombies, Campaign, and Warzone can favor different weapons and setups.
BO7 best guns ranked: the Season 6 top five
CODMunity’s Black Ops 7 Multiplayer tier list labels its update September 24, 2026 / Season 6. Its order is a useful starting point, but read it as that publisher’s assessment rather than an official game ranking.
- VMP (SMG) — CODMunity’s top “Absolute Meta” pick. Its placement makes it the snapshot’s lead recommendation for players seeking an SMG, especially for close-quarters engagements.
- Swordfish A1 (marksman rifle) — second overall and CODMunity’s leading marksman rifle. Consider it when you prefer precision engagements over pushing into close range.
- EGRT-17 (assault rifle) — third overall and one of the ranking’s top assault rifles.
- FG42 (assault rifle) — fourth overall, offering another high-ranked assault-rifle option.
- Hawker HX (sniper rifle) — fifth overall and CODMunity’s leading sniper rifle, suited to players taking longer sightlines.
The positions do not mean the first gun wins every duel. Range, handling, accuracy, attachments, and the role you need to fill can matter more than a weapon’s overall tier.
Best BO7 gun by weapon class
For a class-specific starting point, CODMunity’s ranking identifies these leaders. Its separate weapon stats and comparisons page is marked October 1, 2026 / Season 6; its figures and placements are community-publisher data, not official Activision statistics.

These are rankings, not promises about performance in every encounter. CODMunity’s stats comparator includes fields such as time-to-kill (TTK), bullet velocity, and damage; treat them as that site’s comparison data, and consider range and your chosen attachments when evaluating a weapon.
How to choose the right gun for your map and playstyle
CODMunity describes the Season 6 meta as favoring high-mobility SMGs in close quarters and precision assault rifles for holding lanes. That is the publisher’s assessment, not a rule for every lobby. Use the map’s likely engagement distance and your role to narrow your choice.

- Tight routes and frequent close fights: Start with the VMP or another SMG that handles well at short range. Mobility and quick target acquisition can be more useful here than reach.
- Long lanes or controlled angles: Try an assault rifle such as the EGRT-17 or FG42, or the Hawker HX if you want to take sniper shots. Prioritize accuracy and the range you can use reliably.
- Precision-focused play: The Swordfish A1 is the highest-listed marksman rifle in CODMunity’s snapshot. Its class may fit players who would rather make deliberate shots than commit to close-range pushes.
- Sustained lane pressure: The MK.78 is CODMunity’s leading LMG. Compare its handling and intended role with an assault rifle before settling on it.
Don’t select from one headline statistic alone. A theoretical TTK only describes one part of a duel: range, whether shots land, recoil control, mobility, and your build can change how useful that number is in a match.
How Gunsmith attachments change a weapon’s role
Activision’s November 7, 2025 launch guide groups baseline Gunsmith characteristics into four categories: Firepower, Accuracy, Mobility, and Stealth. It also notes that attachments can provide a benefit while imposing a drawback. Build for the problem you are trying to solve rather than assuming an attachment is an upgrade in every situation.

- Accuracy: Hip-fire spread, recoil, bullet velocity, and flinch resistance.
- Mobility: Movement speeds.
- Stealth: The guide lists this as a Gunsmith category, without defining its individual stats in the cited launch material.
For a close-range build, consider handling and movement alongside damage. For a lane-holding build, recoil and accuracy may be more valuable. Check the attachment’s actual listed trade-off: improving one characteristic may weaken another.

CODMunity says it analyzes weapon and attachment statistics, follows competitive data, and tests weapons. Those are the publisher’s descriptions of its method; the results have not been independently reproduced here. Its September 24 ranking and October 1 comparator are Season 6 snapshots, so a later balance update may change their relevance. Check current official patch notes and the in-game weapon behavior before treating a placement or stat as current.
Treyarch’s October 2025 beta notes said the developer was monitoring TTK and overall weapon balance while evaluating in-game data during the beta. That describes the beta-era approach, not the result of later patches or the October 2026 balance state. No named, independently attributable population usage or win-rate statistic is established here, so weapon popularity should not be inferred from these rankings.
How large is the BO7 weapon roster?
At launch, Activision listed 30 armaments: 23 primary weapons—six assault rifles, six SMGs, three shotguns, two LMGs, three marksman rifles, and three sniper rifles—plus five secondary weapons and two melee weapons. Those figures describe the November 2025 launch roster, not the complete October 2026 arsenal; later additions mean the launch count should not be read as the current total.
