Atlanta answered its 4-3 loss in Game 2 with a winner-take-all victory. Michael Harris II gave the Braves an early lead with a three-run homer in the first inning. Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson also homered as Atlanta finished the 6-2 win.
Ray Kerr, a reliever used as the opener, held Philadelphia to one hit over 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Grant Holmes, Robert Suarez, Didier Fuentes and Dylan Dodd followed him before Chris Sale entered to record the final four outs. Sale struck out Bryce Harper to end the eighth inning. Ray Kerr’s unlikely opener outing
Six weeks before the clincher, Kerr was at Triple-A Gwinnett while working back from Tommy John surgery in 2024. He learned the day before Game 3 that he would open the game. His assignment included facing left-handed sluggers Harper and Kyle Schwarber multiple times. Kerr struck Harper out and got him to ground out; Schwarber singled and walked.

Manager Walt Weiss praised Kerr’s perseverance after the game: “Hopefully Ray Kerr became a bit of a household name tonight. He deserves it. He’s got an amazing story of perseverance.” Weiss said Kerr getting through the top of Philadelphia’s lineup twice helped keep Atlanta from needing another pitcher early.

That fired me up, honestly, and I think it got everyone going.” Kerr, reflecting on the moment, said: “I’ve dreamed about stuff like this,” and added, “For it to actually happen, I still haven’t even processed yet.”

Who the Braves play next: Dodgers in the NLDS
Atlanta’s next opponent is Los Angeles in a best-of-five National League Division Series. The Dodgers’ announcement says Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. PT at Dodger Stadium. The Braves recap lists the same start as 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT and names FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One as broadcasters. Los Angeles is set to host Games 1 and 2, plus Game 5 if needed. Atlanta won five of six regular-season games against Los Angeles in 2026, including a three-game sweep at Truist Park in August. The clubs are meeting in the postseason for the sixth time and for the first time since the 2021 NLCS. Los Angeles won their most recent NLDS meeting, three games to one, in 2018. Those past results set context, but do not determine the outcome of this series. The Dodgers’ announcement identifies Los Angeles as the back-to-back 2024 and 2025 World Series champion.

What the Wild Card win means for Atlanta
The clinch was Atlanta’s first victory in a winner-take-all postseason game since Game 7 of the 1996 NLCS. The Braves had lost six consecutive winner-take-all postseason games before this one; the Braves recap describes that as the third-longest such streak in MLB history.
