To complete “Bravil Recommendation” in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, get the Mage’s Staff from Soris Arenim in the Imperial City and return it to Kud-Ei in Bravil. You can buy it for 200 gold if Soris’s disposition is above 70, or retrieve it from drawers in his house.
Start the quest with Kud-Ei
Find Kud-Ei in the Bravil Mages Guild and ask about the Mage’s Staff. She gives you a Beguile scroll to help persuade Varon Vamori. Ask Varon Vamori about the staff
Find Varon in the Bravil Mages Guild and ask him about the staff. GameSpot’s Remastered guide reports that his disposition must be above 65. Use Kud-Ei’s Beguile scroll, persuasion, or bribery to raise it. Varon then tells you he sold the staff to Soris Arenim in the Imperial City’s Talos Plaza District. The threshold differs in guides for different editions: GameSpot gives above 65 for Remastered, while a guide for the original Oblivion says at least 70. For this Remastered walkthrough, use the Remastered guide’s figure; do not treat the older threshold as verified Remastered behavior.

Go back to Kud-Ei after speaking with Varon. She gives you additional Beguile scrolls for dealing with Soris.

Buy it for 200 gold
Soris will sell the staff for 200 gold if his disposition is above 70, according to GameSpot’s Remastered guide. Raise his disposition with the Beguile scroll or another available persuasion option, then ask about the staff.
Take it from the drawers
If you would rather not pay, the staff is in drawers in Soris’s house. The key is in his upstairs desk. You can use that key, pick the drawers’ lock, or open them with a spell.

Return the staff to Kud-Ei
Bring the Mage’s Staff back to Kud-Ei in the Bravil Mages Guild. Returning it completes “Bravil Recommendation,” earns Kud-Ei’s recommendation for the Arcane University, and rewards you with the Captivate spell.
