The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been shown running on a jailbroken PlayStation 5, but it is not a PS5 port. The reported route uses PS5CEMU-HAR, an unofficial homebrew app, to run the Wii U version through the Cemu emulator. A technical report describes the footage as 4K at 30 frames per second; that is a report about a demonstration, not a guarantee of performance throughout the game.
How Breath of the Wild runs on a jailbroken PS5
The demonstration uses the Wii U edition of Breath of the Wild in Cemu, rather than a Switch version running in Yuzu or Ryujinx. Cemu is made available on PS5 through PS5CEMU-HAR, an unofficial homebrew project for jailbroken consoles. GamesRadar reported on October 5, 2026, that the game was playable this way, and El Chapuzas Informático reported the following day that the footage showed 4K at 30 fps.
That distinction matters: the video does not show a native PlayStation release, nor does it mean the game can be installed and launched on an ordinary PS5. PS5CEMU-HAR’s project repository describes the app as homebrew for jailbroken PS5 consoles and says it bundles Cemu for Wii U games and Azahar for Nintendo 3DS games. The repository calls the project unofficial and says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Sony, Cemu, or Azahar.
What “4K at 30 fps” does—and does not—establish
The specific result is attributed to the demonstration: El Chapuzas Informático reports native 4K and 30 fps for Breath of the Wild running through this setup. Separately, the repository lists 3840×2160 output support and frame-pacing options, including 30 fps at 60 Hz and 60 fps at 120 Hz displays. Output resolution support is not proof that every game scene holds a particular frame rate. The available reporting does not establish consistent performance across the full game, so the clip should be read as a showcased result rather than a general performance guarantee.

The repository says most Wii U games tried so far are playable and that video, controls, sound, and saves work. Those are the project’s own compatibility notes, not an independent assessment of every title or scene.
How it compares with the reported Switch 2 option
GamesRadar’s October 5 report describes the Switch 2 version as running at 1440p with 4K upscaling at 60 fps. Those figures are GamesRadar’s comparison, not specifications independently verified here against Nintendo documentation. The two routes also differ in what they require and what the evidence represents:

The PS5 footage emphasizes higher reported resolution, while GamesRadar’s Switch 2 comparison emphasizes a higher reported frame rate. Those numbers alone do not settle which experience looks or feels better: the PS5 result is a reported emulator demonstration, while the Switch 2 figures are a publication’s account of the Nintendo route.
What users need to know about files and setup
PS5CEMU-HAR does not include games, keys, firmware, or other copyrighted console data. Its repository says users must add their own game files, and that installation depends on whether the particular console firmware can run homebrew. The project’s compatibility and release details may change; its repository listed 3.0.0 as the latest release label when checked October 7, 2026, but a release date was not established.

The existence of the emulator does not by itself determine whether a particular person’s use of game files is lawful. The sources reviewed do not establish a legal conclusion about individual conduct. Anyone considering the setup should distinguish the unofficial homebrew app from the game itself and consult the applicable rules for their jurisdiction.

GamesRadar described the reaction as divided. It quoted a fan post saying, “Zelda: Breath of the Wild running at 4K on PS5 is so damn beautiful,” while another reaction favored the Switch 2 at 60 fps. The report also quoted the view that people should “just buy a Switch 2 and buy the game.” These are examples of comments, not a representative measure of what fans think.

The attention is understandable: a celebrated Nintendo game appearing on PlayStation hardware is an unusual technical showcase. But the accurate headline-sized takeaway is narrower than “Breath of the Wild is on PS5”: a reported Wii U emulation demonstration reached 4K at 30 fps on a jailbroken console using an unofficial app.
