Build A Rocket Boy announced an over-$110 million Series D on January 17, 2024, led by RedBird Capital Partners. Founded by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, the Edinburgh-headquartered studio said it would use the financing to commercialize three projects: EVERYWHERE, MindsEye and ARCADIA. Since then, IO Interactive’s publishing arm, IOI Partners, has announced a worldwide publishing and distribution deal for MindsEye, which launched on June 10, 2025.
Who founded Build A Rocket Boy?
Leslie Benzies founded Build A Rocket Boy and leads the Edinburgh-headquartered studio. He is best known for his years at Rockstar North: TechCrunch describes him as the former studio president who drove development of Grand Theft Auto from the third installment through later titles. That background explains the connection to GTA, but Build A Rocket Boy is a separate studio with its own projects.
Who invested in the studio’s Series D?
Build A Rocket Boy announced the financing on January 17, 2024. RedBird Capital Partners led the round, with Galaxy Interactive, NetEase Games, Endeavor, Alignment Growth, Woodline Partners, GTAM Partners and other investors participating. The announcement described the financing as more than $110 million; it did not present that sum as a per-project budget.
RedBird’s release said the firm managed approximately $10 billion in assets. That figure describes RedBird, not the amount invested in Build A Rocket Boy.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What was the $110 million intended to fund?
The studio said the proceeds would support commercialization of three connected initiatives. Its announcement presented them as different parts of a game and creation ecosystem, not as three interchangeable standalone games.
| Project | Announced format and player role | Distribution or maturity described |
|---|---|---|
| EVERYWHERE | An open-world, multi-world gaming and entertainment platform for players to explore and share experiences. | Presented in the 2024 funding announcement as a platform to be commercialized; no console or PC launch details were specified there. |
| MindsEye | A story-driven AAA game, focused on playing authored content. | IOI Partners later announced a worldwide publishing and distribution agreement. IO Interactive scheduled release for June 10, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. |
| ARCADIA | User-generated-content design tools intended to let players create and share experiences. | Presented as part of the studio’s broader creation vision; the funding announcement did not give a release date or platform list. |
Benzies framed the studio’s broader aim as giving players a place to create and share, alongside the stories developers make. The three initiatives therefore had distinct roles: EVERYWHERE as the wider platform, MindsEye as the authored game, and ARCADIA as creation tools.

Build A Rocket Boy’s funding announcement combined a traditional story-led game with a broader platform and tools for player-made content. The clearest evidence of a concrete commercial route is for MindsEye: a named publishing partner, announced platforms and a scheduled launch date. EVERYWHERE and ARCADIA were described as parts of the studio’s plan, but the cited announcements do not provide equivalent launch specifics for them.
