c2rintl.en-us.dll is a Microsoft Office Click-to-Run component, not a general Windows system DLL. If Windows reports that c2rintl.en-us.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Microsoft 365 or Office installation that owns it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The most likely fix is Online Repair:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select the three-dot menu, or select the entry and choose Modify.
- Choose Online Repair.
- Select Repair and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows, then test Word or Excel.
Microsoft says Online Repair replaces or repairs the full Office installation. Quick Repair is faster, but Online Repair is the better choice for a missing or damaged Click-to-Run component. See Microsoft’s Office repair instructions.
What c2rintl.en-us.dll belongs to
The file is associated with Microsoft Office Click-to-Run installations, including Microsoft 365 Apps and perpetual Office editions that use Click-to-Run. The en-us portion identifies the U.S. English localization.
A normal location is:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedClickToRunC2RINTL.en-us.dll
It may also appear inside a versioned Office update directory under the Click-to-Run installation. The exact version, size, hash, and architecture depend on the Office build, update channel, language, and whether Office is 32-bit or 64-bit.

It should not normally be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
This is not a standalone Windows runtime used by games, DirectX, Visual C++, or printer drivers. Do not treat it like a general-purpose DLL.
A genuine copy should be inside the Office Click-to-Run installation and carry a valid Microsoft digital signature. The filename alone is not proof of authenticity. If the file is in an unusual folder, check its path and signature before restoring it.
Fix 1: Run Office Online Repair
Time needed: About 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the Office installation and internet speed.
Use this first when Word, Excel, Outlook, another Office application, or the Office installer reports a c2rintl.en-us.dll error.
- Close every Office application.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select the three dots beside the entry.
- Choose Modify. Approve the administrator prompt if Windows displays one.
- Select Online Repair.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Restart the computer.
- Open the Office application that previously failed.
How to tell whether it worked
The repair succeeded if the Office application opens without the missing-file message and you can create or open a document. Check File > Account > About to confirm that Office is installed and to note its build information.
If the repair fails, record the error shown by the Office repair window and continue with the reinstall steps below. Do not copy a DLL into an Office folder manually.
Fix 2: Try Quick Repair, then repeat with Online Repair
Time needed: About 5 to 15 minutes for Quick Repair.
Quick Repair is useful when the installation has a minor problem and you want to try a shorter repair first.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Quick Repair.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test Office.
If c2rintl.en-us.dll is still missing, run Online Repair using the steps in Fix 1. Quick Repair does not replace as much of the installation as Online Repair.
Fix 3: Uninstall and reinstall Office
Time needed: About 20 to 45 minutes.
Use a full reinstall when Online Repair fails, the Office installation was interrupted, or several Office files are damaged.
First try the normal uninstall path:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
If Office will not uninstall normally, use Microsoft’s Office uninstall troubleshooter. Restart after the removal completes.
Then reinstall Office from the Microsoft account associated with the license. Follow Microsoft’s official Office reinstall procedure.

After installation:
- Open Word.
- Sign in if requested.
- Select File > Account > About Word.
- Confirm that Office opens and displays its product information.
- Test the application that originally produced the error.
Reinstalling the owning Office package is safer than obtaining c2rintl.en-us.dll separately because it restores matching files, registry information, servicing data, language resources, and the correct Office architecture.
Fix 4: Check the Office installation type
Time needed: About 5 minutes.
Office can be installed through Click-to-Run, the Microsoft Store, or an older MSI-based installer. Mixing files from these installation types can produce repair and update problems.

- Select About Word or About Excel.
- Read the installation information shown in the About window.
A Click-to-Run installation identifies itself as Click-to-Run. A Microsoft Store installation identifies itself as Microsoft Store. MSI-based Office installations may appear differently and are serviced through a different installation model.
Do not copy files between MSI, Store, and Click-to-Run installations. If more than one Office version is listed in Installed apps, remove obsolete versions using Microsoft’s supported uninstall process, then repair or reinstall the version you intend to keep. Microsoft’s guidance on identifying installation types is available in its Microsoft 365 installation-type documentation.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Fix 5: Check the path, signature, and antivirus quarantine
Time needed: About 10 minutes.
A missing file can mean that antivirus software quarantined it, but malware can also use a familiar Office filename. Treat the path and digital signature as more important than the name.
- Open File Explorer.
- Check the normal Click-to-Run location:
text
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedClickToRun
- If you find the file, right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Confirm that the signer is Microsoft and view the signature details.
- Run a current security scan.
- Open your antivirus application and check Quarantine or Protection history.
Restore a quarantined file only when it is in the genuine Office Click-to-Run path, its Microsoft signature validates, and the security product identifies it as a false positive. Afterward, run Office Online Repair and update the security software.
Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Do not approve a file merely because its filename is c2rintl.en-us.dll.
Fix 6: Check 32-bit and 64-bit Office compatibility
Time needed: About 5 minutes.
Office components must match the architecture of the installed Office package. Do not replace a 64-bit component with a 32-bit file, or the reverse.
To check the installed architecture:
- Open Word or Excel.
- Select File > Account.
- Select About Word or About Excel.
- Read whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
If the application will not open, check the Office entry in Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or use the Office installer and account information to identify the package.
The current Office installer generally selects 64-bit unless it detects an existing 32-bit Office installation or a standalone 32-bit Office application. Repair the existing architecture instead of downloading a DLL that happens to have a matching-looking filename.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components when other programs are also failing
Time needed: About 15 to 30 minutes, plus a restart.
c2rintl.en-us.dll is an Office component, so Windows System File Checker is not the primary fix. Use Windows repair commands when Office repair fails and Windows itself shows broader symptoms, such as damaged system apps, update failures, or multiple unrelated programs failing.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
bat
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
bat
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Run Office Online Repair again if the DLL error remains.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Its DISM and System File Checker guidance explains the supported process.
If repeating SFC and DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it identifies; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not required for this Office-specific problem.
Fix 8: Check drivers only when Windows has broader hardware symptoms
Time needed: About 10 to 30 minutes.
A display, storage, chipset, or security driver is not a normal cause of a missing Office localization component. Check drivers only when the Office failure occurs alongside crashes, device errors, display problems, or Windows instability.

System Restore is a secondary option when the error began immediately after a known Office or system change and normal repair or reinstall is unavailable.

What not to do
Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites may provide malware, the wrong Office build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of the installation. A copied DLL may remove one message while leaving the damaged Office package unusable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse Office repair, Microsoft’s uninstall process, or the official Office installer instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not the correct home for this Office component. Copying it there can create path, signature, servicing, and architecture problems.
Do not run regsvr32 on it
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM or ActiveX DLLs. c2rintl.en-us.dll is a Click-to-Run localization component and is not normally repaired by registration. Running:
regsvr32 c2rintl.en-us.dll
can produce an entry-point or registration error and does not rebuild the Office installation.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not delete Click-to-Run folders manually
Removing Click-to-Run directories can leave Office uninstall and update records inconsistent. Use Installed apps, Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter, or Office setup.
Common causes of the error

|---|---|
| Corrupted or incomplete Click-to-Run installation | Run Online Repair |
| Failed Office update or repair | Repair, then uninstall and reinstall if necessary |

| 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch | Keep the installed Office architecture consistent |
| Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Incomplete uninstall | Use Microsoft’s uninstall troubleshooter |
| Damaged profile or permissions | Test another Windows account and inspect permissions |
| Suspicious file location | Scan the file and do not restore it based on its name alone |
FAQ
Is c2rintl.en-us.dll part of Windows?
No. Available file records place it with Microsoft Office Click-to-Run. It is not a normal Windows system DLL.
Is the file safe?
A copy in the Office Click-to-Run directory with a valid Microsoft digital signature is consistent with a genuine Office component. A filename alone is not enough to establish safety.
Why does the error mention a game or another application?
The failing process may be starting Office-related components, or the file may be stale from an incomplete uninstall. Check the full path and installed applications before assuming the error belongs to a game.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Should I register the file with regsvr32?
Normally, no. Repair or reinstall the Office installation instead.
What if the file exists but Office still fails?
Check whether the failing application uses the same Office installation, whether a second Click-to-Run directory exists, whether Office is 32-bit or 64-bit, and whether a recent update was interrupted. Then run Online Repair.
What should I provide when asking for further help?
Include the exact error text, the Office edition, whether it is Click-to-Run, MSI, or Microsoft Store, the Windows version, the full path shown for the file, the Office build, and whether Word, Excel, or the Office installer fails.
