Activision has not confirmed that an update identified as version 1.50 causes this problem, so the timing of the failure does not establish its cause. The official troubleshooting steps differ by platform.
First, identify where and how it fails
Before changing settings, note whether the problem happens when launching the game, in the menu or public multiplayer lobby, during matchmaking, or in a match. Record the exact error code, if one appears, and whether the problem began immediately after the update. Activision says crashes and freezes can have a variety of causes; its guidance does not diagnose this report as a version 1.50 bug.
Platform matters: Activision’s article says PC crashes often occur at launch or during public multiplayer, while Xbox One crashes often occur in the public multiplayer lobby or just after a match. These are patterns described in its support guidance, not proof of what is causing an individual player’s crash. Activision’s crash and freeze guide is dated March 5, 2024.
Try the least disruptive fix first
- Close and relaunch Modern Warfare. If the game is frozen, quit the application rather than repeatedly waiting on the same screen.
- Restart the device. If restarting the game does not clear the freeze, reboot the console or PC, then launch the game again.
- Check whether the problem repeats at the same point. A crash at launch, in a lobby, or in a match can help narrow down which platform-specific checks to try next.
These are general first steps from Activision’s support guidance, not a confirmed workaround for a version 1.50 defect.

If you play on PC
Activision’s PC guidance focuses on system requirements, background software, and graphics drivers. Try these checks in order:
- Confirm the PC meets the game’s requirements. Compare your system with the requirements for Modern Warfare before changing unrelated settings.
- Close background applications. Temporarily exit programs you do not need while launching or playing the game.
- Check for software interference. Activision specifically flags input-remapping utilities, overlays, and recording software as applications that may interfere with gameplay or the boot process. Close or disable them temporarily to see whether the crash changes.
- Check your graphics-card driver. Use the driver versions Activision recommends in its PC troubleshooting guidance; do not assume that a third-party driver-updater utility is endorsed or required.
If you play on PlayStation 4
Activision’s console instructions distinguish PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For a PS4, check that the console system software is current. Its additional checks include ensuring the console has adequate ventilation, checking the game disc if you use one, and addressing old game data as described in the official guide. Follow the guide’s PS4-specific instructions rather than applying Xbox steps.

If you play on Xbox One
For Xbox One, Activision recommends checking for current console software and adequate ventilation, and checking the disc if applicable. Its guide also includes steps to clear the console cache and reset the MAC address. Use the Xbox One instructions in the official guide, which explains those procedures.
These console steps are specific to the models named in Activision’s article. The source does not establish that the same procedures apply unchanged to newer PlayStation or Xbox models.

What is known about version 1.50?
The reviewed official materials do not provide a version 1.50-specific diagnosis for Modern Warfare crashing or getting stuck. Activision’s patch-notes index does not surface Modern Warfare (2019) version 1.50 notes in the material reviewed. A SteamDB record lists a Modern Warfare build dated May 20, 2026, but says official patch notes were unavailable for that build; it does not identify it as version 1.50 or connect it to these symptoms: SteamDB patch notes.
Activision’s known-issues page, last updated June 21, 2024, names a PlayStation 5 multiplayer-pack installation issue, not the reported crash. That dated listing does not establish whether a later issue exists, and it does not confirm a version 1.50 problem.

If the crash continues, send support useful details
If the basic steps do not help, gather the details that can distinguish a launch failure from a match or platform issue:
- Your platform and, on PC, the launcher or storefront you use
- The exact point of failure: launch, menu, matchmaking, lobby, or in-match
- The full error message or code, if shown
- Whether the issue began immediately after the update and whether it happens consistently
- Which troubleshooting steps you have already tried
Then use the Activision Support hub to reach Modern Warfare support and its available troubleshooting resources. The materials cited here do not establish a temporary workaround for a confirmed version 1.50 bug.
