Some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II players have reported in-game lights or surfaces turning intensely bright or rainbow-colored—sometimes obscuring the scene. The available reports do not establish a cause or a dependable fix. Activision’s current known-issues list does not name this specific artifact, but its general PC troubleshooting guidance offers sensible steps to try.
What players mean by the bright-colorful-light issue
Player discussions describe lights, objects, or surfaces becoming unusually bright or taking on vivid RGB or rainbow hues. One player called it “Bright colorful lights consume my screen”; other posts refer to “bright RGB lights” and a “rainbow light.” These are individual reports, not an official description or evidence of how widespread the problem is. The reports concern an in-game visual artifact. They do not establish that a graphics card or other PC component is damaged.
Is Activision tracking this bug?
Activision’s Known Issues in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, updated February 27, 2026, is a running list of identified or reported issues. It includes a PC performance-loss item, but does not name the bright or RGB lighting artifact. That separate performance issue should not be treated as confirmation of this bug.

What to try on PC
Activision’s PC troubleshooting article provides general advice for graphical problems; it does not confirm a fix for this particular lighting artifact. Try these steps in order, checking whether the symptom changes after each one:
Rank #2
- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
- Update the graphics driver. Activision recommends using applicable graphics-card drivers for graphical issues. Check the current driver guidance from your GPU manufacturer rather than relying on the version numbers in Activision’s April 2023 article, which are historical.
- Let shader preloading finish. Activision says, “Shader Preloading is an important part of the first boot process.” Allow the process to complete before starting a match; interrupting it may leave the game still preparing shaders. This is general startup guidance, not a confirmed diagnosis or cure for the lighting artifact.
- Verify or repair the game files. Use the repair or file-verification option for the launcher where available. Activision’s guide covers launcher-specific steps; consult its PC troubleshooting article for the applicable instructions.
- Contact Activision Support if it persists. Include a clear description of when the artifact appears and the troubleshooting steps you have tried. If reporting the problem, use the bug-report route linked from the known-issues page; provide a DxDiag file if support requests it or if your case matches the separately listed PC performance-loss issue.
What is known about the cause?
Players in the discussions speculated about graphics drivers, shader caches, and settings, and described different hardware and attempted workarounds. Those accounts are anecdotal and do not show that any single cause or workaround applies broadly. Activision’s available guidance is general troubleshooting rather than a diagnosis of this specific artifact, so there is no verified cause or guaranteed fix to report.
