Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile launched worldwide on March 21, 2024, for iOS and Android. Activision’s free-to-play mobile title included Verdansk, Rebirth Island, Multiplayer, and shared progression with the then-current console and PC versions of Warzone and Modern Warfare III.
That is now a historical release story. Activision removed the game from the iOS App Store and Google Play in May 2025, ended real-money purchases, and announced April 17, 2026 as the server-shutdown date. As of September 14, 2026, Warzone Mobile should not be treated as a playable new download or active service.
What Activision announced
Activision announced the worldwide release on February 28, 2024, after a limited-release period used to gather feedback, fix bugs, and optimize the game. The March 21 date was the official global launch—not another beta—although availability still depended on regional app-store listings and compatible hardware.

It was released as a separate mobile title rather than as a new mode inside Call of Duty: Mobile.

What was included at launch?
- Verdansk: the large-scale Battle Royale map associated with the main Warzone experience.
- Rebirth Island: a Resurgence-style Battle Royale map built around faster matches and repeated redeployments.
- Multiplayer: maps including Shipment and Shoot House, along with additional maps, modes, and changing playlists.
- Controls: customizable touchscreen layouts, accessibility options, and support for compatible Bluetooth controllers.
Activision also highlighted the Backbone One partnership, but a mobile controller was only a control option; it did not provide access to the service after the servers were shut down.
Warzone Mobile was not Call of Duty: Mobile
Warzone Mobile was a distinct app designed around the Warzone experience. It should not be confused with Call of Duty: Mobile, which is a separate game with its own content, progression systems, and live-service history.
The distinction matters today: Activision identifies Call of Duty: Mobile as the mobile alternative after Warzone Mobile was discontinued. It offers Battle Royale, Multiplayer, Zombies, DMZ: Recon, seasonal updates, Ranked Play, events, and a tier-based Battle Pass, but it is not a renamed or continued version of Warzone Mobile.

How shared progression worked
The major connection to console and PC was shared progression and connected inventory, not unrestricted cross-play. Activision said players could progress across Warzone Mobile, the main Warzone game, and Modern Warfare III using an Activision ID.
Eligible shared elements included:
- Player level and Prestige progression
- Weapon levels, attachments, and camos
- Battle Pass progression and many Battle Pass rewards
- Many connected store bundles and cosmetic items
- XP tokens and some challenge-related progression
This did not mean every feature or item appeared on every platform. Some PC- and console-only content, including certain Zombies-related material, was unavailable in Warzone Mobile. “Shared progression” also should not be read as a promise that mobile players freely matched against PC and console players.
Why the first account choice mattered
Activision recommended signing in with an existing Activision ID. During setup, players who wanted connected progression needed to select “Login”, not “Play Now.”
A guest account could not simply be merged later with an existing Activision account. Players who accidentally chose the guest route were instructed to uninstall and restart the app before using the desired login flow.

There were also different migration paths for limited-release users:
- iOS: limited-release players needed to download the separate worldwide-release app.
- Android: limited-release players were generally expected to update their existing installation.

These rewards belonged to the 2024 launch period and are not current offers. The original service also used COD Points, a Battle Pass, BlackCell, and store bundles. Those monetization systems should not be presented as active today.

What happened to Warzone Mobile?
Activision later announced that development and seasonal content would end, citing weaker performance with mobile-first players than with its PC and console audience. The company then:
- Removed Warzone Mobile from Apple’s App Store and Google Play in May 2025.
- Ended real-money purchases on May 19, 2025.
- Announced April 17, 2026 as the date when the game’s servers would shut down.
- Stated that previously purchased content and unused COD Points would only remain usable until shutdown.
- Stated that refunds were not available for previously purchased in-game content or unused COD Points.
Activision’s service-changes notice is the primary source for those dates and conditions. Since April 17, 2026 has passed, an old installed copy should not be described as a way to continue playing the game. The conclusion that the service is now offline follows from Activision’s announced shutdown date.
What can mobile players play instead?
For a currently supported Activision mobile shooter, the company directs players to Call of Duty: Mobile. It is the closest official mobile alternative in broad terms, but its maps, modes, presentation, and progression are not identical to Warzone Mobile.

Players seeking the current main Warzone ecosystem should use the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone experience on supported PC and console platforms. Neither option restores access to the discontinued mobile service.
