OBS is the more clearly documented choice of these two for looping prerecorded video on YouTube: its Media Source can loop a local file, and its VLC Video source can loop a playlist. CameraFi Live is built around mobile live production and its current Google Play listing accepts video files, but the reviewed official material does not establish unattended 24/7 playback or automatic recovery. Neither choice, by itself, guarantees a stream will stay live around the clock.

CameraFi Live vs OBS: which fits a 24/7 prerecorded stream?

Requirement CameraFi Live OBS Studio
Best-established role Mobile live-production app with camera connections, overlays and production controls, according to CameraFi’s product information. Free, open-source desktop software for recording and live streaming, as described in YouTube’s verified encoder directory.
Prerecorded video The Google Play listing accepts video files as an input. The reviewed official material does not describe an unattended continuous-playback workflow. OBS documents a Media Source with a Loop option for local files, and a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for playlists.
24/7 reliability or recovery Not established by the reviewed official material. Loop controls establish playback behavior, not long-term uptime or automatic recovery from a computer, network or stream failure.
Typical device Mobile device. Desktop computer running OBS as an encoder.

Choose OBS if you want to loop one or more local prerecorded videos and are prepared to keep a suitable computer and internet connection running and monitor them. Consider CameraFi Live if you need its mobile production workflow, such as connecting cameras or using overlays, but verify that its current app version can deliver the unattended playback behavior you need before relying on it.

CameraFi’s Google Play listing says it accepts built-in and USB cameras, capture cards, video files, audio files and microphones. It lists destinations including YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, Restream, RTMP and SRT; it also lists H.264 and HEVC encoders and says output can reach UHD/4K depending on platform and phone model. The listing showed a September 17, 2026 update date. These are developer-supplied listing claims, not independent performance test results. CameraFi’s product page emphasizes live production features such as camera connections, overlays, scoreboards and widgets. CameraFi Live on Google Play · CameraFi Live product page

YouTube’s verified encoder directory describes OBS as free, open-source recording and live-streaming software. OBS’s documentation supports the specific local-file and playlist loop controls described here; that documentation is not an uptime guarantee. Set up a looping prerecorded stream in OBS

The steps below use OBS’s documented Media Source for one file. For a playlist, use the VLC Video source and its Loop Playlist control instead. Interface wording can vary by OBS release; OBS’s Knowledge Base article on media sources is dated January 11, 2022.

  1. Prepare YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, schedule or create a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help, so complete activation well before the planned start.
  2. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose the YouTube service and connect or enter the stream key, depending on the available integration and your setup. YouTube’s encoder guidance also describes entering the stream URL and key in encoder settings when needed. Do not share the key in screenshots, public posts or support requests.
  3. Create the scene. In the OBS main window, add a scene, then use the Sources panel’s + button and select Media Source. Create a new source, choose the local video file, and enable Loop. If you need a sequence of files, choose VLC Video, add the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. These controls loop playback; they do not restart OBS or restore a stream after every kind of failure.
  4. Check the picture and sound. Confirm the source fills the canvas as intended, that audio meters respond, and that the file plays from the beginning. Test the transition from the end back to the start. If a playlist is used, confirm the order and that each file is readable by OBS/VLC.
  5. Configure output for the source and connection. In Settings → Output, select an encoder and a bitrate your sustained upload can support. In Settings → Video, set the canvas and output resolution to match your intended stream. YouTube’s supported encoder settings and current recommendations should guide exact resolution, bitrate and keyframe choices; the materials cited here do not establish one universal setting for every channel, codec or connection. Avoid choosing a bitrate that saturates the home connection, and test a sustained stream before depending on it.
  6. Start and verify. Start streaming in OBS and check YouTube Studio’s live control room for incoming video, audio and stream health before treating the broadcast as live. Keep the computer awake, OBS open, the source file available, and the network connection stable for the duration. For unattended operation, arrange a way to notice a stopped stream and restart it; OBS’s loop feature alone is not automatic fault recovery.

What 24/7 operation changes

Computer and network become part of the broadcast

With OBS, the video is played and encoded on the computer running the software. The computer must remain powered and awake, OBS must continue running, and the connection must sustain the outgoing stream. Sleep settings, operating-system updates, an OBS crash, power loss, router trouble or an upload interruption can stop the broadcast. The sources cited here do not provide measured uptime comparisons for CameraFi Live and OBS, so treat reliability as an operational requirement to plan and monitor, not as a feature proven by either product label.

Continuous live does not mean one complete archive

Do not assume YouTube will preserve a 24/7 broadcast as one complete video. The YouTube Help guidance reviewed says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Verify YouTube’s current archive behavior for your channel and format; if you need a dependable recording, make a separate recording or plan stream restarts around archive requirements.

Use material you have rights to broadcast

A prerecorded loop is still a live broadcast on YouTube. Use video, music, artwork and other material you own or are licensed to stream, and check the applicable rights and platform rules before leaving it running. A loop does not make copyrighted material permissible, and repeated or minimally changed content may raise separate channel monetization or policy questions. Review YouTube’s current rules rather than assuming that labeling a broadcast “live” changes them.

When neither app is the right operational fit

If the requirement is an unattended 24/7 YouTube stream, distinguish the playback method from the reliability plan. YouTube’s verified encoder directory specifically lists StreamNeo first as a cloud service for continuous streaming: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera. See StreamNeo.

YouTube’s verified encoder directory also lists Gyre and Upstream.so as cloud options for 24/7 streaming, and AJA HELO Plus for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The directory identifies these alternatives but does not establish their prices or suitability for a particular channel; compare their current features and operating requirements before choosing one.
