A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If your CameraFi Live stream shows a black screen while a video plays, first check whether the video is visible on your phone. If it is black locally too, troubleshoot playback; if it plays locally but viewers see black, investigate the screen-broadcast path. CameraFi’s official guidance does not identify one confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact symptom.
First, find out where the picture disappears
Play the video on your phone and compare what you see there with the YouTube stream. Also note whether viewers can hear audio. This split helps identify which part of the workflow to check; it is a diagnostic approach, not an official CameraFi fix.
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The video is black or fails to play on the phone | Check playback on the phone first, then try the general playback steps below. |
| The video plays on the phone, but the YouTube stream is black | Confirm CameraFi is broadcasting in Screen mode. If it is, document the setup and contact CameraFi support; the official guidance reviewed does not establish a specific cause. |
| The stream is black and audio is also missing | Record both symptoms. Internal-audio capture has Android and target-app support limits, but those limits do not establish why video is missing. |
Confirm CameraFi Live is using the right broadcast mode
CameraFi Live has separate camera and screen workflows. Camera mode broadcasts from the phone or an external camera; Screen mode is intended to broadcast what appears on the phone, including apps and games. For a video playing on the phone, make sure you started a screen broadcast rather than a camera broadcast.
- Open CameraFi Live and choose Screen mode.
- Select YouTube as the broadcast destination and follow the app’s prompts to start the screen broadcast.
- Start the video on the phone, then compare its local picture with the YouTube stream.
CameraFi’s screen-broadcast FAQ says this mode is supported only on Android, as of December 20, 2024. It also describes Android OS and target-app support limits for internal-audio streaming. Check your device and the video app rather than assuming every Android phone and app behaves alike. Those audio limitations are not, by themselves, an explanation for a black picture.

If the video is black on the phone
YouTube’s playback help recommends general checks for playback problems. They are not CameraFi-specific screen-capture fixes:
- Try a different network connection.
- Clear the YouTube app cache if the video is playing in the YouTube app.
- Update the relevant software.
- Restart the phone.
- Test playback on another supported device, if available.
If playback remains black locally, note which app is playing the video and whether other videos play. That information helps distinguish a playback issue from a problem limited to the broadcast.

If local playback works but the YouTube stream is black
CameraFi’s published materials reviewed here do not explain this specific combination of symptoms. Avoid treating a codec, DRM, or hardware issue as the diagnosis without evidence. Gather details that let support narrow down what differs between local playback and the outgoing stream:
- Phone make and model
- Android version
- CameraFi Live version
- Name of the app playing the video
- Whether the phone’s local picture is visible
- Whether viewers hear audio on YouTube

Keep copyright and policy warnings separate from capture problems
If YouTube reports a copyright or Community Guidelines warning, address that separately from the black picture. CameraFi’s FAQ directs users to YouTube Help for copyright and Community Guidelines strikes. A rights or policy warning is not, on its own, an explanation for why the phone’s screen image is missing from the stream.
