camtasiaofficeaddin.dll is a Camtasia Studio PowerPoint add-in file, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or modify Camtasia so it reinstalls the PowerPoint add-in, rather than downloading the DLL and copying it into a Windows folder.
This error can appear as “CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll was not found,” “The program can’t start because CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll is missing from your computer,” or “Error loading CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll. The specified module could not be found.” These are commonly reported variants, and the correct solution depends on whether the file is missing, the add-in is disabled, PowerPoint is incompatible, or a dependency is damaged.
Before you start: identify what is failing
Camtasia’s PowerPoint add-in records a presentation from inside PowerPoint and passes the recording into Camtasia. The problem can therefore involve:
- Camtasia’s installed files
- PowerPoint’s COM add-in settings
- The bitness of PowerPoint
- A dependent Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
- Antivirus quarantine
- A stale add-in registration left after Camtasia was removed
The file belongs to TechSmith Camtasia Studio. It does not normally belong in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Close PowerPoint and Camtasia before applying the fixes below. If the error appears only when opening PowerPoint, start with the add-in and compatibility checks. If Camtasia itself will not start, begin with the installation repair and runtime checks.
Fix 1: Modify Camtasia and reinstall the PowerPoint add-in
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
This is the most likely fix when camtasiaofficeaddin.dll is missing or the Camtasia installation is incomplete.
- Close PowerPoint and Camtasia.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Find your installed Camtasia version in Programs and Features.
- Right-click Camtasia and select Change.
- Choose Modify when the Camtasia installer opens.
- Select Enable Camtasia Add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Complete the modification.
- Restart Windows.
- Open PowerPoint and test the Camtasia add-in.
The wording can vary between Camtasia releases, but the option should identify the Microsoft PowerPoint add-in.
How to tell whether it worked
The error should no longer appear when PowerPoint starts. You should also see Camtasia’s PowerPoint recording controls or ribbon entry, depending on the Camtasia and Office versions installed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the modification completes but the DLL is still reported as missing, do not copy a replacement into a system folder. Continue with the compatibility check and then reinstall Camtasia from the official TechSmith installer.
Fix 2: Re-enable the add-in if PowerPoint disabled it
Time needed: 2 to 5 minutes
PowerPoint may disable a COM add-in after a crash or a slow startup. In that case, the DLL may still be installed correctly, but PowerPoint will not load it.
- Open PowerPoint.
- Select File.
- Select Options.
- Select Add-ins.
- At the bottom, open the Manage list.
- Select Disabled Items.
- Click Go.
- Select the Camtasia add-in.
- Click Enable.
- Close and reopen PowerPoint.
If the Camtasia entry appears under Disabled Items, this is different from a missing file. Re-enabling it may restore the recording controls without reinstalling Camtasia.
Also inspect the COM Add-ins list:
- Return to File > Options > Add-ins.
- Set Manage to COM Add-ins.
- Click Go.
- Select the Camtasia add-in if it is listed.
- Click OK.
- Restart PowerPoint.
If PowerPoint disables the add-in again immediately, the installation may be damaged, the add-in may be incompatible with your Office edition, or a dependent component may be failing. Move to the next fix.

Time needed: 5 minutes
A 64-bit Windows installation does not automatically make 32-bit PowerPoint compatible with current Camtasia versions.
TechSmith states that current Camtasia versions require 64-bit PowerPoint. Support for 32-bit PowerPoint 2019, 2016, and 2013 is limited to Camtasia through version 2021.0.5. A newer Camtasia installation may therefore fail to install or load its add-in when 32-bit PowerPoint is present.
Check whether PowerPoint is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Open PowerPoint.
- Select File.
- Select Account.
- Select About PowerPoint.
- Read the bitness shown in the dialog.
You can also check the Office installation details from File > Account > About PowerPoint. Do not infer the answer from Windows. The relevant architecture is PowerPoint’s architecture.
Match the products
- Current Camtasia with 64-bit PowerPoint is the supported direction.
- Older Camtasia may be needed if you must retain 32-bit PowerPoint.
- A 64-bit Windows system can still have 32-bit PowerPoint.
- Installing both 32-bit and 64-bit Office components does not make one PowerPoint installation compatible with every Camtasia release.
Microsoft Store or Click-to-Run Office installations can also behave differently from a traditional desktop installation. The Camtasia add-in may require a supported desktop version of PowerPoint.

If the Camtasia option is greyed out, PowerPoint may be 32-bit or Camtasia may not be detecting a supported desktop installation. Correct the Office and Camtasia combination before attempting DLL-level repairs.
Fix 4: Reinstall the matching Camtasia version
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
If Modify does not restore the add-in, reinstall Camtasia using an installer obtained from TechSmith.
- Save any Camtasia projects and close Camtasia.
- Close PowerPoint and other Office applications.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Find Camtasia.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when the uninstall finishes.
- Download the current or matching previous Camtasia installer from the TechSmith Download Center.
- Install the version associated with your license and PowerPoint architecture.
- Restart Windows.
- Open PowerPoint and test the add-in.
For older Camtasia releases, especially Camtasia 2018 and earlier, you may need the corresponding license information in your TechSmith account to obtain the correct installer.
A reinstall is the definitive repair when the Camtasia installation folder is incomplete or the add-in registration is damaged. It also avoids mixing a DLL from one Camtasia release with the installer, registry entries, and dependencies from another.

PowerPoint may still try to load a stale Camtasia COM add-in after Camtasia has been removed.
First check File > Options > Add-ins in PowerPoint. If the old Camtasia add-in is listed under Disabled Items or COM Add-ins, remove or disable that stale entry through PowerPoint’s management controls.
If the entry cannot be removed cleanly, reinstall the matching Camtasia version, restart Windows, and then uninstall it through Programs and Features or Windows Settings. This gives the application an opportunity to remove its own Office registration.
Do not delete arbitrary registry entries. If the stale registration remains after a clean reinstall and uninstall, collect the Office version, Camtasia version, and exact error text for TechSmith support.

Fix 5: Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
A message saying “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that camtasiaofficeaddin.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load one of the DLL’s dependencies.
TechSmith documents Microsoft Visual C++ runtime repair for related Camtasia startup and dependency failures. This is not a replacement for reinstalling the Camtasia add-in, but it can resolve a damaged runtime.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Locate the relevant package.
- Open its menu and select Modify, if available.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Camtasia and PowerPoint again.
If the installed package does not offer repair, obtain the official Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages from Microsoft. Use the architecture required by the application:
vc_redist.x64.exeis for 64-bit applications.vc_redist.x86.exeis for 32-bit applications, including 32-bit applications running on 64-bit Windows.
Older Camtasia versions may require both x86 and x64 runtimes because different components can use different architectures. Install only packages from Microsoft, then restart Windows and repeat the Camtasia Modify step if necessary.

Do not assume Visual C++ is the primary cause of every camtasiaofficeaddin.dll error. A missing Camtasia installation file still requires Camtasia repair or reinstallation.
Fix 6: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
Windows Security or another antivirus product may have quarantined a Camtasia file. Do not blindly restore it. First verify that Camtasia was installed from TechSmith and inspect the detection details.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an item associated with Camtasia or
CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll. - Read the detection name, file path, and action taken.
- If the file came from an authentic TechSmith installation, update security definitions and scan the system.
- If you are confident the detection concerns the authentic installation, follow Windows Security’s restore or allow instructions.
- Repair or reinstall Camtasia afterward.
Microsoft warns that restoring a detected file can expose the device if the detection is genuine. If the file path points to a temporary download folder, an unknown installer, or a DLL download sites site, do not restore it. Remove that copy and reinstall Camtasia from TechSmith instead.
A clean official reinstall is usually safer than allowing an isolated file back into an installation whose provenance is uncertain.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when other Windows symptoms exist
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
System File Checker and DISM repair Windows components. They do not normally recreate a private Camtasia installation file, so they should not be the first response to this error.
Use them when Windows has broader problems, such as damaged built-in applications, failed updates, unexplained system errors, or multiple unrelated files failing.
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall Camtasia.
- Test PowerPoint again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, that does not prove it restored camtasiaofficeaddin.dll; check the Camtasia installation itself afterward.
When the manual DISM and SFC process becomes repetitive and you do not know which Windows component changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; repair is handled by the full version, while reinstalling Camtasia remains the definitive fix for this app-owned DLL.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix 8: Check drivers only when PowerPoint or Office is also unstable
Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes
A display, audio, or graphics driver is not the normal source of a missing Camtasia add-in DLL. However, driver problems can cause PowerPoint crashes, recording failures, or unstable hardware acceleration after the add-in has been restored.
Check Windows Update first:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install applicable updates.
- Restart Windows.
To inspect hardware drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any device category related to your recording hardware.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click a device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
Do not remove a working driver merely because camtasiaofficeaddin.dll is missing. Driver repair is an escalation for related crashes or recording problems, not a substitute for repairing Camtasia.
If you are hunting through Device Manager for stale drivers and cannot tell which version is causing the separate PowerPoint or recording problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; installation of updates is handled by the full version, and it is still best to repair Camtasia for the missing add-in itself.

Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
If the add-in worked until a recent application, driver, or Windows change, System Restore may help when a suitable restore point exists.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore.
- Sign in and test PowerPoint after Windows restarts.
System Restore does not replace a proper Camtasia installer and should not be used if you do not have a relevant restore point. It can also undo recent application or driver changes, so save work and review the restore details first.
Do not download or register the DLL manually
Avoid websites offering individual copies of camtasiaofficeaddin.dll. A downloaded DLL can be:
Rank #4
- Transform audio playing via your speakers and headphones
- Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
- Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
- Malware or a modified file
- The wrong Camtasia release
- The wrong architecture
- Missing its dependent runtime
- Incompatible with the Office installation
- Unsigned or impossible to verify
Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 can create version conflicts and bypass the installer’s registration. This DLL belongs with Camtasia’s own files, not in a shared Windows system directory.
regsvr32 is also not a routine fix here. That command registers DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not repair a missing file, restore a dependency, or make an incompatible PowerPoint installation supported. TechSmith’s normal repair path is to modify or reinstall Camtasia.

Common error messages
You may see one of these commonly reported variants:
- “This application has failed to start because CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
- “CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll was not found.”
- “The program can’t start because CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “CamtasiaOfficeAddin.dll is missing or corrupted.”
The wording alone does not identify the cause. “Specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency rather than the named DLL. Check the Camtasia installation, PowerPoint bitness, disabled add-ins, Visual C++ runtime, and antivirus history in that order.
FAQ
Is camtasiaofficeaddin.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with TechSmith Camtasia Studio’s Windows PowerPoint add-in. It should not normally be copied into System32 or SysWOW64.
Does this error concern Camtasia or PowerPoint?
It can concern either. Camtasia supplies the add-in, while PowerPoint loads and can disable it. Repair Camtasia first, then check PowerPoint’s add-in management and architecture.
Will SFC restore the missing DLL?
Usually not. SFC and DISM repair Windows components, not normally third-party application files. Use them only when there are broader Windows corruption symptoms, then repair Camtasia separately.
Should I run regsvr32 camtasiaofficeaddin.dll?
No, not as a routine repair. Registration does not replace a missing file or fix a missing dependency. Use Camtasia’s Modify option or reinstall the matching official version.
Why does a 64-bit Windows computer still have an incompatible PowerPoint?
Windows architecture and Office architecture are separate. A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit PowerPoint. Current Camtasia versions require 64-bit PowerPoint, so check PowerPoint directly.
What if PowerPoint lists Camtasia under Disabled Items?
Enable it, restart PowerPoint, and test again. If it becomes disabled again, repair Camtasia and investigate compatibility or dependency errors.
What if Camtasia is no longer installed?
Remove or disable the stale add-in through PowerPoint’s add-in controls. If that fails, reinstall and cleanly uninstall the matching Camtasia version rather than deleting registry entries blindly.
What information should I give TechSmith support?
Collect the Camtasia version, PowerPoint version and bitness, exact error text, Camtasia installation path, antivirus detection details, and any installation logs. This distinguishes a missing file from an incompatible add-in or dependency failure.
