Yes, you can put videos from different subjects in one YouTube playlist. But the playlist organizes videos for viewers; it does not, by itself, make them play as a continuous 24/7 live broadcast. For an always-on stream, you need to set up a separate live-broadcast workflow.
What a playlist does—and what it does not do
YouTube defines a playlist as a collection of videos. You can add videos and change their order, and the playlist guidance does not require every entry to cover the same subject. For example, an education channel could group lessons in mathematics, science and history in one playlist, then arrange them in the order that makes sense for its audience. See YouTube’s playlist instructions.
A playlist is an organization and viewing tool, not the broadcast feed. YouTube describes live streaming as sending a real-time broadcast to the platform. Its documentation treats playlist management and live streaming as separate workflows; it does not establish that adding videos to a playlist automatically turns them into a continuous 24/7 live stream.
How to organize multiple subjects in one playlist
- Choose a useful scope. Put subjects together when the playlist has a clear purpose for viewers, such as a broad “Daily Learning” collection. If students are more likely to browse by subject, separate playlists for mathematics, science and history may be easier to navigate.
- Create or open the playlist. Use YouTube’s playlist controls to create a collection or manage an existing one, then add the videos you want included. The exact controls may vary by device or YouTube interface.
- Set a deliberate order. Arrange entries by lesson sequence, subject blocks or another clear viewing path. YouTube documents reordering playlist entries, so a mixed-subject playlist need not remain in the order videos were added.
- Use a descriptive title. Make clear that the playlist spans subjects and, where helpful, indicate its sequence or intended audience. A title such as “Middle School Lessons: Math, Science and History” sets expectations better than a generic “Education” label.
What you need for a continuous live stream
To keep a channel broadcasting, arrange a live stream separately from playlist editing. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder and console as ways to go live. For a pre-produced educational program, an encoder workflow is one documented option: it sends a feed to YouTube, and YouTube’s guidance directs creators to set up and check the broadcast in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and encoder streaming tips.

If you want that feed to rotate through recordings from several subjects, the rotation is part of the production setup—not a property established by the YouTube playlist itself. The official pages cited here do not confirm a native playlist-to-live rotation feature or specify a 24/7 runtime guarantee. Check the current behavior of the exact workflow you choose, and monitor the resulting stream rather than assuming playlist entries will keep it on air.
Use playlists to organize the stream archive, too
YouTube says a live stream archive is uploaded to the channel by default and recommends organizing the archive and highlight clips into playlists after the event. That makes playlists useful alongside live programming: they can help viewers find a subject-specific archive or highlights, even though they are not the continuous broadcast source. See YouTube’s live-stream promotion guidance.

Keep the broadcast stable and check the content
- Watch the stream while it runs. Confirm that the picture and audio are present and that any transitions between lessons behave as intended.
- Allow for network disruption. YouTube warns that network issues can interrupt a stream and recommends upload-bandwidth headroom. That is general guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service or a specific uptime figure. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Review the material and its rights. Before broadcasting recordings, check that you have the necessary rights for every video and audio element and that the content follows YouTube’s applicable rules. A playlist’s subject organization does not establish permission to rebroadcast its contents.
- Do not assume special equipment is required. YouTube says expensive equipment is not needed to get started with live streaming; the appropriate setup depends on how you produce and send the feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel built around uploaded educational recordings, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
