But keeping a stream live does not automatically qualify a channel. The channel must meet YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and membership-specific requirements, be accepted into YPP, and follow YouTube’s monetization policies. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current eligibility and available features.
How memberships relate to livestreams
YouTube lists channel memberships as one way to earn revenue from live streams, alongside ads and Super Chat or Super Stickers. Memberships are a feature an eligible channel must set up; they do not switch on just because a stream runs continuously. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance explicitly includes setting up channel memberships.
The key distinction is between the stream format and the channel’s eligibility: a continuous livestream is compatible with memberships, but eligibility is decided at the channel level.
Membership eligibility and the lower YPP threshold
YouTube’s current guidance associates early access to fan-funding features, including memberships, with this threshold:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- At least 500 subscribers.
- At least 3 public uploads in the last 90 days.
- Either 3,000 qualified long-form public watch hours in the last 365 days, or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Reaching those numbers is not approval by itself. YouTube reviews a channel before accepting it into YPP. The thresholds and feature availability may change and can vary by country or region, so check YouTube’s current earning requirements and your Studio Earn tab.
Membership-specific conditions
In addition to the applicable YPP threshold and review, YouTube’s commerce guidance says a channel seeking memberships must meet feature-specific conditions. These include being at least 18, living in a country or region where memberships are available, and accepting the Commerce Product Module or the previously applicable Commerce Product Addendum. The channel must not be set as Made for Kids and must not have a significant number of ineligible or Made for Kids videos. YouTube also lists a restriction for music channels under SRAV. Verify your account’s current status and availability in YouTube Studio and consult YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies.

Do 24/7 livestream watch hours count?
They can count toward the public watch-hour threshold only when the public livestream is converted to a video on demand (VOD). YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD from that calculation. YouTube’s YPP overview describes the qualifying watch-hour rules.
- Public stream converted to VOD: its eligible watch hours can contribute to the public watch-hour threshold.
- Unlisted, deleted, or non-converted stream: its hours do not count toward that threshold.
So a 24/7 schedule does not guarantee qualifying hours. Visibility and what happens to the stream after it ends matter, as does YouTube’s qualification of the resulting hours.

Memberships are not the same as the higher ad-revenue threshold
YouTube lists a higher YPP threshold for ad-revenue sharing: 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. That is separate from the lower threshold associated with early access to fan-funding features. Do not assume that the higher threshold is required solely to enable memberships; check the current feature status shown for your channel in Studio. YouTube’s YPP overview explains the program thresholds.
What can prevent a 24/7 channel from getting memberships?
- YPP review or eligibility: numeric thresholds alone do not guarantee acceptance.
- Membership conditions: age, location, terms acceptance, Made for Kids status, ineligible content, or the SRAV restriction for music channels can affect access.
- Monetization-policy compliance: YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and to the channel overall, not only to uploaded videos. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
- Watch-hour qualification: a stream’s duration alone does not make its hours eligible; public status and conversion to VOD matter.
For the separate technical requirements to begin streaming, see YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance. Streaming continuously does not replace the channel-level eligibility and policy checks above.
