Yes. A monetized YouTube channel can earn from ads served during a live stream even if viewers never watch its later replay. Live ad delivery and replay viewing are separate contexts. Monetization does not guarantee that an ad will serve in every slot, and YouTube’s published guidance does not establish whether hiding or deleting the archive changes the original broadcast’s ad eligibility.
What “skip the archive” means for live ad revenue
Not watching a replay is different from skipping an ad while the stream is live. YouTube says viewers who see an ad during a live broadcast rejoin the ongoing stream when the ad ends or when they skip it. That describes live playback, not whether someone later watches the archive. YouTube’s live-ad guidance describes pre-roll, display ads and mid-rolls for monetized live streams; it does not make later replay viewing a condition of live ad delivery.
An ad slot is only an opportunity: YouTube says it does not guarantee that every slot will serve an ad. If no ad runs, viewers continue watching without one. YouTube’s system considers factors including viewer experience, creator earnings and advertiser values.
What has to be in place for live ads
- The channel must be eligible for monetization, and monetization must be enabled for the live stream.
- For Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue on long-form or live-stream videos, the creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube may review content for advertiser suitability; enabling monetization does not ensure ads will appear. See YouTube’s monetization options.
- Actual ad delivery remains subject to YouTube’s ad systems and whether an ad is available for a given viewer and slot.
Choosing how live mid-roll ads run
YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls. Its automatic system uses natural breakpoints and viewer-experience optimizations. Creators can instead schedule breaks or insert them manually; a Stream Deck is an optional way to insert manual breaks, not a requirement for monetization.

| Approach | What it means | Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | YouTube places mid-roll opportunities automatically. | YouTube recommends this option; an opportunity still may not serve an ad. |
| Scheduled | Choose breaks at 6, 12, 18, 24 or 30 minutes. | More predictable timing, but YouTube cautions that scheduled choices may have lower earnings potential than automatic mode. |
| Manual | Insert a break when appropriate during the live stream. | Offers creator control to align a break with a pause, but requires someone or a configured control to trigger it. |
YouTube reports that channels with live automatic mid-rolls enabled had over 20% average uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels without the feature, across 207 countries. This is YouTube’s platform-reported average published in January 2024—not a guarantee, a causal estimate for an individual channel or a revenue forecast. YouTube’s live-stream monetization help also explains ad controls and analytics.
To review results, use YouTube Analytics to inspect revenue for the live stream and its live replay. The two viewing contexts can have separate activity; replay views are not needed for an ad to have been served during the broadcast.

Will a 24/7 broadcast become one complete archive?
Not necessarily. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a continuous 24/7 broadcast, do not assume the archive will contain the entire stream. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup. Archive capture is an operational issue distinct from whether ads can run during the live broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
Does hiding or deleting the replay affect live ad eligibility?
YouTube’s published pages describe live ad delivery, replay analytics and archive visibility or deletion controls separately. They do not directly establish whether making a particular archive private or deleting it changes the original broadcast’s live-ad eligibility. So the grounded answer is that skipping the replay does not appear as a requirement for live ad delivery, but the effect of changing or removing a specific archive on that broadcast’s eligibility is not confirmed by those pages.

Keeping a YouTube stream running around the clock
If you are planning a 24/7 prerecorded-video stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It is for YouTube streams, not camera broadcasts or other platforms. StreamNeo lists one flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and a first day free with no card. See StreamNeo for details. This addresses stream operation, not YouTube monetization eligibility or guaranteed ad delivery.
