Yes, if you have rights covering the specific movie clips and the way you plan to use them. For a 24/7 YouTube stream, permission should expressly cover continuous or repeated livestreaming, the territories where viewers may watch, monetization if applicable, and any saved replay. YouTube may still interrupt a licensed stream if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What permission needs to cover
A copy of a movie, a general statement of approval, or permission to use a clip in another format does not by itself establish that you can transmit it continuously to the public on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have all necessary rights for the live content’s exploitation on Google services throughout the world. A 24/7 channel should therefore get a written grant that matches its actual use.
- Platform and format: Confirm that the grant covers YouTube livestreaming, not only private viewing, downloads, social posts, or a one-time screening.
- Continuous or repeated use: Make sure the rights holder permits the clips to run continuously or recur in a loop. A license for a single event may not cover an always-on stream.
- Territory and duration: Confirm where the stream may be watched and for how long. The platform terms refer to worldwide rights, but a particular license may be limited by territory or time.
- Monetization: If you plan to earn revenue from the channel or stream, check that the grant permits that use.
- Replay or archive: If YouTube will save the broadcast, verify that the license also covers the resulting recording and its availability after the live transmission.
- All material in the clip: Identify separately controlled elements, such as music, and confirm they are covered too. Permission from a film distributor may not necessarily cover every embedded work.
Get the grant from the copyright owner or a representative authorized to license these rights. Keep the signed permission, covered titles, territory, permitted period, rights contact, and any platform instructions accessible to whoever operates the stream.
Why a licensed stream can still be interrupted
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the streamer. If the material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a broadcast. These platform actions do not, on their own, determine whether your private license is valid.

For licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. This is a separate operational step: a license alone does not ensure that YouTube’s systems will let the stream continue, and geo-restricting the stream does not remove the need to address allowlisting. Confirm with the owner which channel identity and territories should be covered.
Live detection and archived-video claims are distinct. Even if a live broadcast finishes, the saved livestream may receive a Content ID claim afterward. That is why replay rights and archive settings should be settled before going live.

How to check a movie stream before launch
- Inventory every clip. Record each film and identify any separately controlled material, including music where relevant.
- Verify who can grant the rights. Confirm that the person or company signing is the owner or an authorized licensing representative for the rights you need.
- Match the written grant to the plan. Check YouTube, live transmission, continuous or repeated use, intended territories, duration, monetization, and saved replay against the license text.
- Arrange Content ID allowlisting. Ask the rights holder to allowlist the channel and confirm the channel identity and territory coverage. Keep any relevant instructions for the stream operator.
- Decide how the broadcast will be archived. If a replay will be kept or made available, verify that the permission covers it; otherwise, review the archive settings against the license.
- Keep records at hand. Store the signed grant, rights contact, covered titles, territory list, duration, and allowlisting confirmation where the operator can find them.
Fair use and other copyright exceptions are not automatic permission
YouTube describes U.S. fair use as a fact-specific legal analysis and notes that copyright exceptions differ in other countries. The fact that a clip is short, repeated, or presented in a 24/7 channel does not establish that the use qualifies. The information here cannot determine whether a particular movie, license, or stream is authorized. If you rely on an exception rather than permission, get advice for the relevant jurisdiction and facts.
YouTube also says it cannot decide copyright ownership disputes. A platform outcome should not be treated as a substitute for confirming rights with the owner or obtaining jurisdiction-specific legal advice.

What live Content ID matching does—and does not do
YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is available only to certain partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager. YouTube describes it as a sensitive rights-management function and requires global rights and exclusive ownership for content used in live matching. Access to that feature does not grant an ordinary streamer permission to show movie clips; the streamer still needs the necessary rights.
