Yes—if the mini PC can handle your specific stream and its measured whole-system power makes sense at your local electricity rate. A processor’s TDP is not the power draw of the complete computer, so the reliable way to judge cost is to measure the PC at the wall while it runs the actual streaming workload.
First distinguish the workload: encoding a live camera or game feed, looping prerecorded video, and watching a YouTube stream locally are different jobs. This guide focuses on keeping a YouTube live stream running from a computer, including the special case of prerecorded loops.
What “run a 24/7 stream” means
A mini PC used as an encoder takes a source, encodes it, and sends the result to YouTube. YouTube describes the role this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” A live capture feed, a game capture, and a prerecorded video loop can impose different demands, so a PC that works for one setup is not automatically suitable for another.
Watching YouTube on a mini PC is not the same as broadcasting. If the goal is a prerecorded video running continuously as a live broadcast, YouTube’s encoder guidance separately points to a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. The computer-based approach below is for operating an encoder yourself.

Why processor TDP cannot tell you the electricity cost
Intel lists the N100 processor’s TDP at 6 W in its N100 specifications. That is a processor specification, not a measurement of a complete mini PC running a stream. Memory, storage, motherboard, networking, cooling, and power-supply losses all affect what the system draws from the wall. Intel’s explanation of TDP and Processor Base Power specifications is useful context, but neither number substitutes for measuring the finished system.
An N100 mini PC is a low-power category worth investigating, not a guarantee that every N100 system can encode every stream. No specific mini PC’s whole-system power or reliability is established here. Compare candidate machines by their performance and stability under your intended source, resolution, frame rate, codec, overlays, and audio—not by CPU TDP alone.

Measure the real cost of running it
Measure average wall power during the actual workload
- Connect a plug-in energy meter, or another trustworthy wall-power measurement device, to the mini PC.
- Run the exact streaming software, source, resolution, frame rate, codec, overlays, and audio you intend to use. Include the network and other components that will be powered continuously if you want to count them.
- Let the system operate long enough to capture representative behavior, rather than relying on an idle reading or a brief startup peak.
- Record average wall watts and use the electricity price per kWh shown on your own bill.
Calculate annual energy and cost
Annual kWh = average wall watts × 8,760 ÷ 1,000
Annual electricity cost = annual kWh × your local price per kWh
This is an arithmetic estimate, not a universal price. It assumes the measured average draw continues for 8,760 hours; actual cost depends on operation and your tariff. Do not use the N100’s 6 W TDP, an adapter’s maximum output, or an idle-only reading as the stream’s electricity estimate.

Choose and configure a mini PC for the stream
Check the workload before buying
- Source: live camera or game capture, prerecorded video, or another input.
- Output: resolution, frame rate, codec, audio, and any overlays or scene composition.
- Encoding: whether the streaming software can use hardware acceleration for the selected codec and settings.
- Headroom: enough capacity to avoid sustained overload while encoding and sending the stream.
- System fit: cooling and noise, ports, wired or wireless network connection, warranty, support, and measured stability under load.
For a gaming channel, add the actual capture and overlay workload to your test: a simple video loop is not a reliable stand-in for a scene with moving gameplay, audio mixing, and graphics. No universal N100 performance result establishes that a particular combination will work; verify it on the candidate machine.
Set up the encoder and YouTube stream
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or configure the live stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- In your encoder, enter YouTube’s stream URL and key, then choose the output settings supported by both your intended stream and YouTube. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance covers supported settings and recommends RTMPS.
- Use YouTube’s recommended settings as the starting point for resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval, then confirm the encoder can sustain them. YouTube accepts H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options and transcodes the incoming live stream into formats for viewers; the local encoder still has to deliver its chosen output reliably.
- Run a representative test with motion and audio, rather than checking only a static title card. Check YouTube’s stream health and monitor the encoder for dropped frames or overload before relying on the setup.
- Test recovery: confirm what happens after a network interruption, encoder restart, or power loss, and decide who or what will bring the stream back online.
YouTube advises testing upload speed and monitoring stream health. A fast connection alone does not prove the stream is healthy: test the real source and settings, and make sure the upload connection can sustain the encoder’s output.

Plan for interruptions and YouTube’s archive limit
A 24/7 plan needs more than a PC that can encode. Consider thermal behavior during prolonged operation, the stability of the power and network connections, stream-health monitoring, and how the encoder will be restarted after an interruption. The PC approach leaves recovery and monitoring to your setup unless you add a separate mechanism.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in its encoder streaming guidance. That archive rule is not a promise that a single uninterrupted broadcast can run indefinitely. If continuous availability matters, plan how to manage stream sessions and what to do when a stream ends or drops.
