Yes—an Intel Mac mini can send a YouTube livestream through OBS, provided its macOS version and configuration suit the workload. But compatibility is not a promise of reliable unattended 24/7 operation. The exact Mac mini, encoder settings, scene complexity, power and internet connection all matter, so test the complete setup before relying on it.
What determines whether your Intel Mac mini can stream?
“Intel Mac mini” covers several generations and configurations, so there is no universal performance verdict. Identify your model, processor, memory and macOS version before choosing output settings.
For one example, Apple’s 2018 Mac mini specifications list a quad-core 3.6GHz Core i3 configuration, six-core Core i5 and configurable six-core Core i7 options, Intel UHD Graphics 630, memory configurations up to 64GB, and Gigabit Ethernet. Those specifications apply to the 2018 model, not every Intel Mac mini.
OBS lists Intel or Apple Silicon CPUs, an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later among its macOS requirements. It cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” The OBS Project says the workload varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. A simple source is a different workload from several live inputs, animated overlays, browser sources, filters or capture devices. Which OBS encoder should you use on an Intel Mac?
For OBS streaming on Intel Macs, use x264. OBS says Intel Mac VideoToolbox streaming is unsupported because it lacks the constant-bitrate support required by most streaming services. Its separate support for Intel Mac H.264 VideoToolbox applies to recording; it should not be mistaken for support for sending a YouTube livestream. OBS hardware encoding guidance
Hardware encoders can shift work away from the CPU, but that general advantage does not override OBS’s specific Intel Mac streaming instruction. Keep the scene and output settings within what your particular machine can sustain, then judge by a representative test rather than by the model name alone.

Set YouTube ingest settings and test your connection
YouTube recommends choosing stream quality to fit your internet connection, testing upload speed and trying a representative stream before going live. Use the same kind of audio and video movement you expect in the real stream, then watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages while it runs. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance

YouTube automatically transcodes incoming streams into formats for viewers across devices and networks. That does not remove the need for a stable upload from your location. A wired Ethernet connection can be a sensible option if available; the 2018 Mac mini has Gigabit Ethernet. A cable cannot create upload bandwidth, prevent ISP outages or guarantee stability.

Can it stay live unattended, and will YouTube save the stream?
The cited Apple, OBS and YouTube guidance does not certify any Intel Mac mini for continuous unattended operation. Reliability depends on the individual computer, workload, power, network, software and monitoring. Test the full scene, encoder, output settings, network and audio under representative conditions, and have a plan for noticing interruptions and restoring the stream.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a 24/7 feed will be preserved as one complete recording, nor does it say that a stream longer than 12 hours cannot remain live. If a complete archive matters, plan separately for how you will retain the source recording rather than assuming a continuous live feed will become one video.
