Castr can loop pre-recorded video to YouTube, but its published recorded-video settings recommend 1080p and do not establish that its scheduler outputs 4K. You can set up a continuous stream; before relying on it as a 4K broadcast, ask Castr whether this specific workflow preserves 3840×2160 or downscales it.
What Castr documents—and what it does not
Castr documents a pre-recorded streaming workflow that accepts uploaded MP4 files, connects to platforms including YouTube, and can run in Infinite Loop mode. Castr describes that mode as sending the video to added platforms continuously, 24/7. Its setup guide says the feature is available across plans, but media size and file-count limits depend on the subscription; check your account’s current plan and confirm that it permits the loop mode you need.
The unresolved point is 4K output. Castr’s recorded-video guide recommends 1920×1080, not 3840×2160, and does not confirm that the pre-recorded scheduler sends a 2160p stream. YouTube’s ability to ingest a 4K live feed does not establish what Castr’s scheduler outputs. Castr’s separate TV Playout documentation lists 1080p as the highest output in the relevant advanced settings, but TV Playout is a different workflow and does not settle the pre-recorded scheduler’s capabilities. Choose a schedule and connect YouTube
Infinite Loop or Date & Time
In Castr’s pre-recorded streaming setup, upload one or more MP4 videos, arrange the playlist, and enable or disable individual items as needed. Choose Infinite Loop to repeat the uploaded content continuously on the platforms you add. Choose Date & Time when you need a scheduled future start instead of an always-on loop. API connection or manual stream key
Castr documents two ways to connect YouTube: an API connection to YouTube Events, or a manual connection using YouTube’s streaming server and stream key. The API route connects through YouTube’s event workflow. With a manual key, use the server and key shown for the YouTube stream; Castr says stream descriptions must be edited in YouTube’s dashboard when using this method. Prepare the video and test the actual output
Castr’s 2023 recorded-video recommendations are a practical starting point for a supported stream, not evidence of 4K scheduling:

Castr warns that a video that does not match its suggested configuration may cause the stream to stop during the broadcast. These are Castr’s recommendations, not independent test results, and they do not specify how a 4K source is handled. Castr’s recorded-video settings
- Check that each file is MP4 and within your account’s current file-size and playlist limits.
- Upload the file or playlist, arrange the order, and select Infinite Loop if the channel should remain live continuously.
- Connect the YouTube destination by API or manual server/key setup, then start the stream.
- Open the YouTube live control room and monitor stream health and the received resolution. Test with the exact source file and settings you intend to use; do not infer 2160p from the source file’s properties alone.
- If 4K is essential, ask Castr to confirm whether the pre-recorded scheduler outputs 3840×2160 for your account and whether it downscales the upload. Verify the answer in a test broadcast before building a 24/7 workflow around it.
What YouTube’s 4K guidance means
YouTube lists 4K/2160p as an ingest option and says it transcodes incoming live streams into formats for viewers on different devices and networks. Its encoder guidance recommends 35 Mbps for H.264 at 2160p and 60 FPS; bitrate recommendations vary with codec and frame rate, so use YouTube’s table for the exact combination you plan to send. Common problems and checks
- The stream stops after starting: Check the source format and encoding against Castr’s recommendations, then review the account’s upload and file limits. Castr specifically warns that mismatched video settings can stop a recorded stream.
- YouTube shows less than 2160p: The source being 4K does not prove the scheduler sent 4K. Check YouTube’s received stream resolution and ask Castr whether the pre-recorded workflow preserves or downscales 3840×2160.
- The stream starts at the wrong time or does not repeat: Check whether the stream is set to Infinite Loop or Date & Time, and verify the loop feature is available for your current plan.
- The stream connects, but the description is wrong: For a manual stream-key connection, edit the description in YouTube’s dashboard, as Castr directs.
- The channel is live but playback quality varies by viewer: YouTube transcodes live ingest into multiple output formats. Monitor stream health and test from a viewer device; the resolution selected at ingest is not the only playback option viewers may see.
