Yes. In Pokémon Scarlet, Ditto can produce eggs with a compatible, breedable Pokémon during a picnic. Eggs appear in the picnic basket over time, and each egg is the species of the Pokémon paired with Ditto—not Ditto itself.
How to get eggs with Ditto
- Put Ditto and the Pokémon you want eggs from in your party. The partner must be able to breed.
- Start a picnic. Scarlet uses the picnic basket for egg collection rather than a daycare.
- Check the basket periodically; an egg may take time to appear. Serebii describes the mechanic as having a chance to find an egg in the basket over time when two compatible Pokémon are at a picnic: Serebii’s breeding mechanics guide.
- Take any eggs from the basket. If you want eggs from a particular Pokémon, keep only the intended compatible pair in your party, since other compatible pairs can also produce eggs during the picnic.
What Ditto can breed with
Ditto removes the usual requirement to pair a male and female Pokémon that share an Egg Group. A breedable Pokémon of either gender—or a genderless Pokémon—can pair with Ditto. This makes Ditto useful when a species is single-gender or has no gender.

The egg comes from the non-Ditto Pokémon’s species. For example, pairing Ditto with Garchomp produces a Gible egg. Ditto cannot breed with another Ditto, and it cannot make a Pokémon from the non-breeding group produce eggs. Adding Ditto does not override that restriction. Game8’s breeding guide and Gamer Guides’ breeding guide describe these compatibility rules.
Ditto versus ordinary breeding
| Breeding route | Partner requirements | Which species hatches? |
|---|---|---|
| Ditto | Ditto plus one compatible, breedable Pokémon; the partner can be any gender or genderless. | The non-Ditto Pokémon’s species. |
| Without Ditto | Usually a male and female Pokémon that share an Egg Group. | The female Pokémon’s species. |
Egg Power is a separate picnic effect that improves egg generation; it does not change which species can pair or which species the egg becomes. Serebii’s guide publishes example rates for specific pairings. For a different-species pair with the same Original Trainer, it lists a 1.99% effective rate with no Egg Power and 19.82% at Egg Power level 2. For a same-species pair with different Original Trainers, it lists 5.31% with no Egg Power and 52.86% at level 2. These are published in-game mechanic figures for those particular pairing conditions, not a universal rate for every picnic or a real-world study.

If the picnic basket stays empty
- Check that both Ditto and the intended partner are in your party.
- Confirm the partner is breedable; Ditto does not bypass the non-breeding group.
- Allow time and check the basket again. Eggs are not necessarily immediate.
- Use a meal with Egg Power if you want to improve generation.
- For predictable results, remove other compatible Pokémon from the party so another pair does not produce eggs instead.
