Yes—if your old character is a local offline save from the original Diablo II and you play on PC. Blizzard’s documented method is to copy the save file into Diablo II: Resurrected. An original online or Battle.net character cannot be imported as a Resurrected online character; you’ll need to create a new online character instead.

Blizzard says the original game and Resurrected share the same underlying engine, allowing local offline saves to work after copying. The instructions do not establish a console import route, so do not assume a PC save can be transferred to a console. How to import an original offline save on PC
- Locate the local offline save files for your original Diablo II character.
- Make a backup copy before changing or moving save files.
- Copy the original save files into Diablo II: Resurrected on PC.
- Launch Resurrected and check for the character in single-player.
Blizzard’s FAQ confirms the manual copy method but does not specify a file path in its instructions. Avoid relying on an unverified path; the important distinction is that the save must be local and offline.
Why an old online character cannot transfer
Original online characters are separate from local save files, so the offline-save copy method does not bring an old Battle.net character into Resurrected online mode. Blizzard says players must create a new online character to use features such as friend invites and the game’s updated security.

Can you play the imported character offline?
Resurrected supports offline single-player, but the client still needs an internet connection periodically for updates and authentication checks. “Offline” therefore means you can play single-player without a continuous connection, not that the game never needs to connect.

Blizzard announced that transfers of existing Diablo II: Resurrected Expansion characters into Reign of the Warlock will no longer be available starting November 16, 2026. The announcement says eligible transfers should be completed before then and cites preventing items obtained through automated farming from entering the newer content as the reason. This is a separate transfer policy for existing Resurrected Expansion characters; it does not change the original Diablo II offline-save import method.
