Not reliably for a new recurring YouTube channel membership in India. Google says recurring channel-membership plans are temporarily turned off in India and directs viewers to prepaid plans. Google supports UPI for subscriptions offered by eligible apps, but that general support does not confirm UPI for creator memberships. Google’s help pages do not establish that UPI is accepted for every prepaid membership checkout, either. Check the payment methods shown when you select Join on the creator’s channel or video.
Channel membership, YouTube Premium, and UPI are different things
A YouTube channel membership is a paid relationship with a particular creator. It can provide channel-specific perks, such as badges and members-only benefits. YouTube describes regular memberships as monthly payments, with members automatically charged at the start of each billing cycle.
YouTube Premium is a separate subscription to YouTube’s service, not a membership of an individual creator’s channel. Google Play’s India payment guidance says UPI can be used for subscriptions offered by eligible apps and discusses UPI AutoPay, with YouTube Premium and Google One as examples. That guidance is about app subscriptions generally; it does not say that a creator’s channel membership accepts UPI.
What Google says about recurring memberships in India
Google Pay Help’s page titled “Changes to automatic payments in India per RBI regulations” says: “Recurring plans for channel memberships are temporarily turned off. Use prepaid plans to use this service.” In other words, UPI AutoPay support for some subscriptions should not be treated as a way to bypass the current restriction on recurring channel-membership plans.

Google recommends prepaid plans, but its help information does not confirm that every viewer will see a prepaid option or that UPI will be offered for that option. Availability and payment methods can depend on the account and the checkout shown to the viewer.
How to check the payment methods for a creator’s membership
- Open the creator’s YouTube channel or one of their videos. A membership must be enabled for the channel for the Join option to appear.
- Select Join and review the membership level and perks offered. The amount and options shown there apply to that channel and your checkout.
- Continue to the payment step and look for UPI among the methods actually displayed. If a prepaid plan is offered, check the payment methods for that plan separately.
- If UPI is not listed, choose another payment option shown at checkout, if available, or check again later. Do not assume that UPI AutoPay for another Google subscription means it will work for this creator membership.
YouTube’s Android guidance describes joining through a creator’s channel or video and following the payment prompts. The Join checkout is the practical account-specific confirmation of whether you can pay with UPI.

Recurring payments and RBI eMandate checks
YouTube says viewers in India may need to verify or re-enter payment details because of RBI eMandate requirements. A bank may also not support recurring payments. These issues can affect recurring billing when it is available; they do not establish that a channel-membership checkout will accept UPI, nor do they override Google’s current guidance that recurring channel-membership plans are temporarily turned off in India.
Why there is no single membership price for India
Channel membership prices vary by the level a creator offers. YouTube’s India pricing information lists multiple rupee price points, not one standard price for every channel. It also says price updates that began rolling out gradually in May 2025 may mean the price differs depending on when a viewer signs up. Treat the amount shown in the specific channel’s Join checkout as the relevant price.
