MAME’s System 22 driver documents Ridge Racer’s three-monitor version, but it also says support for its C139 linked-cabinet hardware is unfinished. MAME can route game output to multiple displays in general; that does not establish that this specific Ridge Racer variant currently produces correctly linked views across three monitors.
What MAME’s documentation establishes
The official Namco System 22 driver identifies the three-monitor Ridge Racer variant and notes that C139 support for linked cabinets, including this version, is unfinished. The driver also records rendering defects for Ridge Racer, such as bridge cables appearing through a guardrail and an unsmooth sunset fade. Those notes describe driver status and bugs; they are not a controlled test confirming how the three-monitor version behaves in a current build.
So the careful answer to “Does Ridge Racer 3 monitor work in MAME?” is: the variant is documented, but the reviewed official material does not verify a complete three-monitor experience. It does not establish a current ROM-set name, machine short name, or version-specific launch recipe either.
How MAME’s multi-monitor controls work
MAME distinguishes the game’s emulated screens from the windows it opens on your computer. Its command-line documentation describes -numscreens for setting the number of output windows and -screen0, -screen1, and -screen2 for assigning those windows to physical displays. The exact usable -view and per-monitor settings depend on the game and configuration.

The BGFX effects guide illustrates both a multi-window arrangement for a three-screen game and an arrangement that shows a three-screen game in one output window. It describes generic MAME display configuration, not Ridge Racer-specific support.
Three output windows on three monitors
In a supported multi-screen setup, MAME can open separate output windows and place them on separate physical displays. The general controls are -numscreens and the numbered -screen options. The guide’s example for three physical PC monitors uses multiple entries, one per window. These controls explain how to route output; they do not show that Ridge Racer’s linked views are implemented.

Three emulated screens in one window
MAME can also compose multiple emulated screens into a single output window. The BGFX guide gives hlsl, unfiltered, unfiltered as an example for a game with three emulated screens shown in one window. That is a display arrangement rather than proof of working C139 linked-cabinet behavior in Ridge Racer.
What you need for a physical setup
Three monitors or displays are the relevant hardware category if your goal is to reproduce multi-screen output. They are an optional output arrangement, not an established requirement for playing Ridge Racer in MAME. The reviewed documentation does not verify particular monitor models, racing wheels, or arcade control interfaces for this variant.

- For three separate physical displays, MAME’s general controls include a separate output window per display.
- For a single-display arrangement, MAME’s documentation describes composing multiple emulated screens in one window.
- Neither arrangement should be treated as confirmation that the three-monitor Ridge Racer variant has correctly linked views in a particular MAME build.
Which MAME version supports it?
The reviewed official pages do not identify a MAME version that has verified working triple-screen output for this Ridge Racer variant. The driver’s unfinished C139 note is the clearest game-specific status statement available here. A version-specific claim would require checking that build’s machine definition and confirming the linked displays in actual play.
