Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—OBS can play multiple pre-recorded videos during a YouTube live stream. For a fixed sequence, use OBS’s VLC Video Source playlist. If by “on a schedule” you mean switching videos automatically at set clock times, the reviewed OBS documentation does not establish a built-in clock-time scheduler; scene changes are a practical manual alternative.
Choose the playback method that matches what you mean by “schedule”
| What you need | OBS or YouTube method | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Play several videos in a fixed sequence | OBS VLC Video Source playlist | Plays files in list order when shuffle is off; Loop Playlist determines whether the list repeats. Requires VLC. OBS Media Sources |
| Choose when to change video or layout | Put media sources in separate OBS scenes and switch scenes | Allows different layouts and manual cueing; an operator must switch scenes. OBS Sources Guide |
| Set a YouTube live event’s start time | Schedule the event in YouTube Studio | This schedules the live event, not the order or clock-time changes of videos coming from OBS. The encoder still supplies the live program. YouTube encoder instructions |
Set up a sequential video playlist in OBS
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. OBS Media Sources
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, add a VLC Video Source and add the video files you want to play to its playlist. Arrange them in the order you want them to appear.
- Set playback behavior. Leave shuffle disabled for the listed order. Enable Loop Playlist only if you want playback to start again with the first item after the last item finishes. The OBS guide notes that shuffle is off by default. OBS Media Sources
- Check the output before going live. Confirm that the intended video and audio appear in OBS’s program output, then follow YouTube’s encoder workflow to connect and start OBS. YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video. YouTube streaming tips
Use scenes when videos need different layouts or manual cues
For videos that need different framing, overlays, or a deliberate change at a moment you choose, create separate OBS scenes and add the relevant media source to each. Switch scenes when you want the program to change. OBS describes scenes and sources as the building blocks of the output layout. This approach gives you manual control, but it does not make the change automatically at a specified wall-clock time. OBS Sources Guide
What YouTube scheduling does—and does not do
YouTube Studio’s scheduled live event sets up the event and its planned start; OBS remains the encoder sending the live program. When the event is due, configure OBS with the stream URL and key, start the encoder, check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room, and use YouTube’s Go live workflow. Scheduling the event does not itself cue different files in OBS. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
A trailer is not part of the OBS playlist
YouTube’s scheduled-stream trailer is a separate pre-broadcast feature for the watch page, not a way to insert multiple videos into the encoder’s live program. YouTube states that trailers are available to creators with more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes, and that a trailer must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes long. Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, then check that its bitness matches OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Media Sources
- Videos play in an unexpected order: Check the playlist order and make sure shuffle is disabled.
- The playlist stops after the last file: Enable Loop Playlist if you want the sequence to repeat.
- The video changes at the wrong time—or not automatically: A playlist follows its sequence, not a documented clock-time schedule. Scene switching is manual. YouTube event scheduling controls the event start, not OBS’s video cues.
- The scheduled event is not receiving OBS output: Confirm OBS is configured with the event’s stream URL and key, start the encoder, and check YouTube’s preview before using Go live. YouTube recommends allowing at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event for encoder startup and preview checks. YouTube streaming tips
