No—not through YouTube’s standard OBS-to-YouTube workflow. A Premiere is a scheduled upload: YouTube starts its countdown and plays the video at the time you set in YouTube Studio. OBS encoder auto-start applies to live streams, not to starting a scheduled Premiere.
How a YouTube Premiere starts
To create a Premiere, upload the finished video in YouTube Studio, choose the schedule option, select “Set as Premiere,” and choose its date and time. You can configure the countdown and its length if those options are available in your Studio workflow. At the scheduled time, YouTube starts the countdown; when it ends, viewers watch the uploaded video together. See YouTube’s Premiere instructions.
The Premiere has its own public watch page before it begins. Share that page so viewers can set reminders, chat, and comment ahead of the event.
Why OBS auto-start does not start a Premiere
YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting concerns live streams. When enabled, it lets a creator start a live stream by having the encoder begin sending the configured stream. That workflow does not make OBS the trigger for a scheduled Premiere. This describes YouTube Studio’s native workflow. The official instructions do not establish whether a specific third-party plugin, script, or external API can trigger Premiere-related actions, so it would be too broad to say that every possible custom automation is impossible.
Choose the workflow for the event you want

Run a live pre-show before the Premiere
- Upload the finished video and schedule it as a Premiere in YouTube Studio.
- Create and configure a separate YouTube live stream for the pre-show. If you want OBS to start that live stream, check the stream’s auto-start setting and configuration in Studio.
- Set up Live Redirect on the live stream to send viewers to the scheduled Premiere, following the current options in YouTube’s live-stream settings.
- Share the Premiere watch page and tell viewers that the live pre-show will hand them off to the Premiere. The redirect moves viewers; it does not turn the Premiere into an OBS stream or replace its scheduled start.
Check format support before scheduling
YouTube’s Premiere help says Shorts are not supported as Premieres and that 360/VR180 video or output greater than 1080p is not supported. Check the current Premiere guidance in case platform requirements or Studio labels have changed.
