EmuDeck documents a Ryujinx setup for SteamOS, but that establishes setup feasibility, not whether a particular game will boot or perform well. Compatibility and performance depend on the individual title and configuration.
What Switch emulation on Steam Deck involves
Steam Deck runs SteamOS, and EmuDeck’s Ryujinx on SteamOS guide describes configuring Ryujinx and adding game entries to Steam through Steam ROM Manager. The guide lists game files, keys and firmware as inputs. These are separate from Steam’s own games and are not supplied by Valve as part of Steam Deck.
The documented process provides a route to set up an emulator; it is not a guarantee that every emulator build or fork remains available, official or supported by Valve. Setup details can also change, so consult the current project documentation rather than relying on old step-by-step instructions.
Will a particular Switch game work?
That needs a title-specific answer. EmuDeck’s setup guide does not provide a current compatibility matrix or benchmark, so it cannot establish whether a given game boots, remains stable, or runs acceptably at your preferred settings. A game that launches may still have glitches or performance limitations.

- 1TB NVMe SSD
- 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass, 7.4" Diagonal display size up to 90Hz refresh rate
- Wi-Fi 6E
- 50Whr battery; 3-12 hours of gameplay (content-dependent)
- Carrying case with removable liner
When checking a specific title or emulator build, look for recent evidence addressing three separate questions:
- Compatibility: Does the game start and progress through the parts you want to play?
- Stability and performance: Does it remain playable in actual use, rather than merely reaching a menu?
- Setup and controls: Are extra configuration or input adjustments needed?
Steam Deck Verified does not rate Switch emulation
Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program categorizes games reviewed for compatibility in the Steam catalog. Its label is not a rating for Nintendo Switch games running through Ryujinx or another third-party emulator. A Steam Verified badge therefore cannot tell you whether a Switch title works on Steam Deck.

Files, legality and offline use
The emulator guide identifies game files, keys and firmware as required inputs, but does not determine whether obtaining or creating those files is lawful. Rules vary by jurisdiction and by how the files were acquired; check the applicable law rather than assuming that emulation or any particular method of sourcing files is automatically legal or illegal.
Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ says installed games can generally be played offline unless a particular game requires an internet connection. That is general device guidance, not a promise that emulator software or every emulated game will work offline in every situation.

Does a microSD card improve emulation?
A microSD card is an optional way to add storage, not a performance upgrade for emulation. Valve says Steam Deck supports booting from microSD and formatting cards for use. The FAQ does not establish that a card improves a Switch game’s speed, compatibility or stability.
