But the available figures do not show how many teenage developers make millions—or establish that the creator of a breakout game became a millionaire. The clearest picture is a sharp contrast between a small top tier and much more modest median payouts.
How much do Roblox developers make?
Roblox’s creator earnings are substantial in aggregate, but those totals are not what a typical developer takes home. The company reported $1,503.1 million in creator earnings for 2025, up from $922.8 million in 2024. Those are platform-wide totals, not estimates of individual income or net profit. Roblox’s 2025 Form 10-K reports the figures.
| Measure | Reported figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Creator earnings in 2025 | $1,503.1 million | Aggregate company-reported earnings, not a typical creator’s income. |
| Creator earnings in 2024 | $922.8 million | Aggregate company-reported earnings for the prior year. |
| Top 1,000 creators’ average earnings in 2025 | $1.3 million | A top-group average; it does not describe the broader creator population. |
| Median DevEx creator payout for the 12 months ended December 31, 2025 | $1,550 | Roblox’s reported median for DevEx creators, not everyone who made or published an experience. |
The last two figures come from Roblox’s Creator Hub. A mean for the top 1,000 and a median for DevEx creators describe very different groups: the top-group average highlights the upper tail, while the median indicates the midpoint of payouts among the stated DevEx group. Roblox also says more than 35,000 creators were part of DevEx. Separately, its 2025 filing says more than 23,500 creators received fiat payouts during 2025 and more than 35,500 were qualified and registered at year-end. These counts use different descriptions and time frames, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.
How do Roblox developers make money?
Roblox creators can earn through several kinds of activity, and the amount they receive depends on the transaction. The company does not describe one universal developer percentage for every sale.

- Experiences and in-game purchases: Creators can sell enhancements or other items inside their experiences.
- Avatar items: Creators can make and sell virtual items through the Marketplace.
- Creator Rewards: Roblox offers reward programs for creators; eligibility and terms are set by the platform.
- Advertising and portals: These are additional ways to monetize or direct audiences, subject to Roblox’s terms.
- Licensing and tools: Creators may earn through intellectual-property licensing or products such as plugins.
Roblox’s Creator Hub summarizes some transaction shares this way: creators generally earn 70% of what they sell in Robux in their game, 30% of what they sell in the Marketplace, and up to 90% for items sold in real money, such as plugins or paid access purchases. Those are Roblox’s stated summaries for the listed transaction types, not a blanket rate for all creator revenue; consult the current monetization documentation and applicable terms for a specific product or sale. The company’s filing likewise describes different platform and creator shares by transaction type.
Can a teenager cash out Robux?
Robux earned on Roblox is not automatically cash income. To exchange eligible earned Robux for money through the Developer Exchange program (DevEx), a creator must meet the program’s requirements and submit a cash-out request. Roblox’s current DevEx documentation lists a minimum age of 13, at least 30,000 earned Robux, a verified email address, a DevEx account, tax documentation, and compliance with the program’s terms.
Rank #2
Roblox’s 2025 filing says the prospective DevEx cash-out rate became $0.0038 per eligible earned Robux on September 5, 2025. The filing says older balances retain their earlier rate until cashed out. The rate applies to eligible earned Robux under DevEx; it is not a promise that every Robux balance can be withdrawn at that value. Requirements and terms can change, so creators should check Roblox’s live documentation before making plans.
Being old enough to qualify for DevEx is not the same as having a guaranteed income. The cited program requirements establish Roblox’s eligibility conditions; they are not individualized legal, tax, or employment advice for a young creator.

Did a teenager make Grow a Garden?
Associated Press reported on July 30, 2025, that Grow a Garden was created by a teenager and later acquired by Splitting Point Studios. The game’s visibility shows that a young creator’s Roblox experience can attract an audience and industry attention. It does not establish the teenager’s personal earnings, a sale price, or how often creators reach a comparable outcome. AP’s report quoted Splitting Point Studios founder and CEO Janzen Madsen: “Well, I actually think in five years this is what player expectation is gonna be. And because you guys haven’t embraced it, like you’re not gonna know how to make games.” His comment reflects one studio leader’s view of player expectations, not proof that traditional game companies as a whole have changed course.
What does Roblox’s success mean for the wider gaming industry?
Roblox combines creation tools, distribution, audience access, transactions, and services for publishing across supported devices. For some creators, that bundled environment makes it possible to build an experience and reach players without operating every part of a conventional game business independently. Roblox’s 2026 impact report says creators earned more than $1.5 billion globally during 2025 and presents estimates of broader economic impact. Those modeled estimates should not be read as direct wages paid to developers.
The platform also supports work beyond making games. Roblox’s impact report profiles Rush Bogin, who joined its user-generated-content creator program at 13 and later built a business around avatar items. That illustrates a path into creator work beyond experience design; it is not evidence of millionaire earnings.
Roblox’s scale and highly visible hits may influence how other studios think about user-generated content and player participation. But one breakout game and a top-creators average cannot establish that Roblox has displaced conventional game development or that comparable outcomes are common. A fair comparison between platforms would require matched evidence on payout distributions, audience discovery, monetization routes, included services, and costs—not just a headline revenue-share percentage.

What risks do teen developers face?
Peer groups can help young developers learn technical skills, find collaborators, and build social or career connections. A CHI 2025 qualitative study by Yubin Choi, Jeanne Choi, and Joseph Seering interviewed 18 teen Roblox developers about their peer communities. Participants described benefits as well as conflict, weak community structures, and exposure to financial scams. Because the study involved 18 interviewees, it offers insight into experiences and risks, not a prevalence estimate for all teen creators. Read the study.
Quick Recap
- Keep control of account credentials and be cautious of requests to share passwords, payment details, or account access.
- Verify offers involving money, collaboration, or ownership rather than relying on informal promises in a chat or community.
- Remember that Roblox controls discovery, monetization rules, and DevEx eligibility; platform terms may change.
