Mercury can give a MiSTer FPGA setup a Sega Saturn-inspired enclosure and configuration, but it is not a Saturn core or a complete console in a box. You still need compatible MiSTer hardware, and the Saturn experience depends on the core, memory, controllers, and other options you choose.
What the Mercury kit does—and does not do
Df3mod’s Mercury is a physical presentation and configuration kit for the MiSTer FPGA platform. Its Saturn styling makes a MiSTer setup look like a Saturn; MiSTer remains a multi-system platform, and the Saturn functionality comes from the separate Saturn core. Kicks & Grips’ October 2, 2026 report and RetroRGB’s October 1, 2026 announcement both describe the kit as Saturn-themed rather than as a standalone console.
What is included, and what must you supply?
The DE-10 Nano, the FPGA board commonly used in MiSTer setups, is reported as not included. RetroRGB also reports that Mercury can work with MiSTer Pi using a separately available adapter. Treat compatibility and included parts as configuration-specific, and confirm the current contents with Df3mod’s listing before ordering.
The available reports describe selectable options rather than one fixed configuration. Depending on the build, choices include SDRAM, controller or SNAC interfaces, video accessories, storage, wireless, cooling, and remote control. Kicks & Grips also describes VGA, a Saturn-style MiniDIN connection, a 24-bit DAC, a passive luma trap for S-Video Saturn cables, and separate video-converter options; it says the kit itself does not support composite video. These detailed connection claims may depend on the chosen configuration, so check the live product listing against your display and controller setup.

What does Mercury cost?
Kicks & Grips reported a configurable preorder starting at €229 on October 2, 2026, with the final price varying according to options. That is a secondary report, not a guaranteed current price or a confirmed total for any particular build. Check Df3mod’s live listing for today’s price, exact contents, availability, and shipping terms.
What does the MiSTer Saturn core need?
The enclosure does not determine whether the Saturn core will run well; the core’s hardware requirements do. The MiSTer-devel Saturn core repository lists a primary 128 MB SDRAM module and recommends dual SDRAM for better compatibility. Check the repository’s current guidance and issue list when choosing memory, since the recommendation concerns core compatibility rather than what Mercury necessarily includes.

What to expect from Saturn emulation
The MiSTer FPGA Saturn documentation describes BIN/CUE and CHD media support, including multi-disc support, alongside USB, Bluetooth, and SNAC controller options. It also identifies unsupported Saturn accessories and warns that Fast mode can break some games, advising against using it as the default. In other words, the kit’s console-like appearance does not guarantee exact hardware equivalence or support for every game, peripheral, and operating mode.

How to decide whether Mercury fits your build
- Already own MiSTer hardware? Confirm that your board and any required adapter match the Mercury configuration you plan to buy.
- Planning to run Saturn games? Check the core’s SDRAM guidance and decide whether its dual-module recommendation matters for your intended compatibility.
- Need specific controllers or video output? Match the selected SNAC/controller and video options to your accessories and display; do not assume they are included in the base kit.
- Comparing the real cost? Price the board, memory, controller interfaces, video parts, and any storage or wireless options you need, then verify the current configured total with Df3mod.
