Maybe, but YouTube’s current help pages do not confirm a universal way to complete a paid channel-membership purchase in the standard smart-TV app while watching a conventional 24/7 livestream. YouTube says the Join button is not available on every platform. If you do not see it on your TV, use the channel’s homepage or /join page, or join through YouTube on a computer or mobile device. That documentation gap is not proof that every TV app blocks purchases.
What to try on your TV

While watching the stream, open the channel or stream details and look for Join. YouTube documents using the TV app to reveal video details and select Subscribe, but subscribing is not the same as purchasing a paid membership. YouTube’s TV-app guide describes the Subscribe action; it does not establish a TV membership checkout flow.

If Join is absent, go to the channel homepage or its
/joinpage. YouTube also recommends trying a computer or the mobile app when the button is unavailable on a platform. The channel must offer memberships, and membership availability is limited to eligible countries or regions. YouTube’s membership instructions describe the joining process and eligibility. -
Sign in, select Join, choose a level, review its perks and payment details, then complete the purchase. The minimum age is 18, or 19 in Korea and Algeria, according to YouTube’s membership instructions.

Why the TV app may not show Join
YouTube explicitly cautions that “The ‘Join’ button isn’t available on all platforms yet.” A missing button therefore does not, by itself, mean the creator has no membership program. The official pages reviewed do not explicitly say whether a standard smart-TV app can finish checkout during a horizontal 24/7 stream, so neither a guaranteed yes nor a universal no is supported.

Join starts a paid channel membership, usually billed monthly, for creator-defined perks such as badges, emoji, posts or members-only content. Levels and benefits depend on the creator.

YouTube TV membership is a separate live-TV service, not a creator’s channel membership. Likewise, YouTube’s instructions for buying movies and TV shows on supported smart TVs do not establish that creator memberships can be bought through the same checkout. A documented route during vertical live viewing
YouTube does document buying a membership in a specific mobile-app surface: the vertical live feed. In that flow, tap the dollar-sign icon in live chat, tap Memberships, then Join. YouTube says this route is available on Android phones and is not currently available on iPhones. It is not an instruction for a smart-TV app or every standard livestream layout. A viewer joining during a livestream may generate a green “New Member” message in live chat, but that confirms a live membership interaction—not that TV checkout is supported. YouTube’s membership-benefits guide explains the live-chat notification.

Can you become a member without leaving the stream?
If Join is offered on the device and stream surface you are using, follow the on-screen flow. If it is missing, the documented fallback is the channel homepage or /join page, or YouTube on a computer or mobile device. The official instructions support those alternatives but do not promise that the stream will remain visible during checkout.
