Yes, but it depends on your Minecraft version. In Java Edition 26.1, /time rate <rate> changes how quickly the World Clock advances, making its day/night cycle longer or shorter. In versions without that command, /time set only moves the clock to a chosen time; it does not change the cycle’s speed.
How long is a normal Minecraft day?
A full Minecraft day/night cycle lasts 24,000 ticks, or 20 minutes of play, according to Minecraft Education’s 2022 lesson material. That figure is for the complete cycle, not just the daylight portion.
Change the cycle speed in Java Edition 26.1
Mojang documents /time rate <rate> for the World Clock in Java Edition 26.1. The rate must be greater than 0 and no higher than 1000; 1 is normal speed. A smaller rate makes the cycle take longer, while a larger rate makes it take less time. For example, 0.5 halves the clock’s speed, so a full cycle takes twice as long; 2 doubles its speed, so a cycle takes half as long. These durations follow from the documented multiplier.
To change the rate, open chat and enter /time rate 0.5 or another value in the supported range. You need permission to use commands. The command changes the World Clock and dependent timelines, not the speed of general gameplay simulation. Mojang distinguishes it from /tick rate in its Java Edition 26.1 release notes.

Java Edition 26.1 also documents /time pause and /time resume for stopping and restarting a World Clock. Pausing holds the clock; it does not lengthen the time it takes to complete a cycle once it is running.
What to do if your version lacks /time rate
In versions without World Clock rate control, the built-in time command can set the clock to a point in the cycle, but the cited documentation does not establish a native setting for cycle duration. The official Minecraft commands guide lists options such as day, night, noon, and midnight for /time set. Historical Bedrock 1.17.30 release notes likewise describe setting a specified time; neither is a speed multiplier.

Freeze and advance the clock manually
In Bedrock, Microsoft’s GameRule reference documents DoDayLightCycle as controlling whether day and night progress. Disabling it freezes the cycle. You can then set the time and use a custom command-block or add-on system to advance it on your own schedule. That is a workaround you build, not a built-in cycle-length control. The exact setup depends on how you choose to implement it.
Enable commands and check permissions
Minecraft’s commands guide explains that command access depends on permissions. For a Java single-player world, enable Allow Commands when creating the world. For a Bedrock single-player world, turn on Allow Cheats in Game settings. In Bedrock, enabling cheats permanently disables achievements for that world, even if cheats are later turned off. In multiplayer, you may need operator or administrator permissions.

These version distinctions matter: the documented /time rate feature here is specifically for Java Edition 26.1. Do not assume it works in an earlier build or in Bedrock without checking documentation for that exact version.
