Current Calamity no longer includes Astrageldon Slime; it was replaced by Astrum Aureus. In the separate Catalyst add-on, an undefeated Astrageldon becomes inaccessible after Moon Lord, but you can summon it again afterward if you defeated it before Moon Lord.
First, check which mod you are playing
“Astrageldon” refers to different content depending on the mod. The old Calamity boss and Catalyst’s Astrageldon are not the same progression case, so a post-Moon-Lord answer needs to distinguish them.

Current Calamity: Astrageldon was removed
Calamity’s Astrageldon Slime is historical content, not a current boss you can unlock by reaching a particular point in progression. The Official Calamity Mod Wiki labels the page as old content and says Astrageldon Slime was replaced by Astrum Aureus. The version history dates that rework to Calamity version 1.4.0.001, released November 20, 2018. Official Calamity Mod Wiki: Version history
Older descriptions of Astrageldon’s Moon Lord-era behavior or rewards refer to that earlier Calamity content. They do not establish that the boss or those drops are available in current Calamity. For current progression context, consult the mod’s progression guide.

Catalyst: defeat it before Moon Lord if you still need the fight
In Catalyst, Moon Lord matters if Astrageldon is still undefeated. After you defeat Moon Lord, the Astral Communicator becomes unusable for that first fight, so you cannot leave Astrageldon until later and then begin the encounter.
If you defeated Astrageldon before Moon Lord, Catalyst’s page says you can summon the boss again afterward. The practical rule is straightforward: do the first fight before Moon Lord if you have not cleared it; a prior victory does not prevent a later rematch.

Some references describe Calamity’s former Astrageldon Slime and its old post-Moon-Lord details. Those are not current Calamity instructions, and they should not be combined with Catalyst’s separate summon rules. If you are following a guide, check both the mod name and whether it describes current or historical content.
