Microsoft Rewards does not guarantee a direct Fortnite V-Bucks reward. In some countries and accounts, you may redeem points for an Xbox or Microsoft gift card, then see whether that promotional balance is accepted for an eligible Fortnite purchase. The route depends on your live Rewards offers, account region, platform and checkout.
Can Microsoft Rewards give you free V-Bucks?
Not directly as a standing Microsoft Rewards benefit. Microsoft Rewards offers vary by country and account, and the Rewards dashboard—not a fixed public conversion chart—is the authority for what you can redeem. An Xbox or Microsoft gift card may appear as an offer, but Microsoft does not promise that its balance will pay for every V-Bucks checkout.
Microsoft says points have no cash value and gives only a general example: it usually takes about 5,000 points to redeem something worth $5. That is an approximate generic value, not a guaranteed points-to-V-Bucks rate. The required points, card denomination and available offers can change.
How the conditional Rewards route works
- Earn points. Depending on your market, qualifying activities can include Bing searches, eligible Microsoft Store purchases, selected Xbox activities and activities shown on the Rewards dashboard.
- Open your local Rewards dashboard. Check whether an Xbox or Microsoft gift card is currently listed, then read its denomination, points cost, expiration and eligible-purchase terms before redeeming.
- Redeem in your account region. Microsoft requires redemption in the region where the Rewards account was registered. Do not use a VPN or switch markets to chase a different offer; that can cause redemption problems or violate program rules.
- Check the Fortnite checkout route. A Microsoft/Xbox gift card creates promotional Microsoft account balance for eligible purchases. The official information reviewed does not establish that this balance works for every Fortnite V-Bucks purchase in every country, so verify that the intended checkout accepts it before treating the balance as V-Bucks money.
- Complete platform redemption if applicable. For an Epic V-Bucks card used with Xbox, Epic generates a secondary code after you select the linked platform. That code must be redeemed through the Microsoft account connected to the Epic account.
V-Bucks cards, Fortnite Gift Cards and Microsoft cards are different

What is changing about Fortnite cards?
Epic says Fortnite Gift Cards are replacing V-Bucks cards. Legacy V-Bucks cards may still be sold by some retailers or remain available in some regions while the rollout continues.

V-Bucks card redemption
Sign in to the correct Epic account, enter the card PIN, select the linked platform, confirm the account and balance, and finish the redemption. For Xbox or PlayStation, Epic supplies a secondary code for the relevant Microsoft or Sony account. Keep the purchase receipt until the V-Bucks or code has been credited.
Fortnite Gift Card redemption
A Fortnite Gift Card adds funds to your Epic account rather than directly adding a fixed V-Bucks amount. Those funds can be used to buy V-Bucks and other eligible Epic content. Epic says V-Bucks bought with Epic account balance are available on other platforms through Fortnite Shared Wallet, except Nintendo, which does not support that wallet system.

Where cards are available
Epic says Fortnite Gift Cards are sold through major gaming and electronics retailers in select regions. Availability, denominations and stock vary by country. Check Epic’s regional availability information and the retailer’s current listing before buying; an offer seen in one country is not evidence that the same card is sold in yours.

How to buy V-Bucks on Xbox or PlayStation
Epic lists the in-game Item Shop, V-Bucks card redemption and the Epic Games Store as purchase or redemption routes for console players. The exact route shown depends on the platform and account setup. A Microsoft Rewards gift card should be treated as a possible funding method only after the Microsoft checkout identifies the Fortnite purchase as eligible.

Common mistakes and fixes
“I cannot find a V-Bucks reward.”
That is normal: Microsoft Rewards does not promise a V-Bucks-specific offer. Review the current dashboard for your registered market rather than relying on a screenshot, old guide or another country’s catalog.
“The points price is different from an article I read.”
Offers and prices are dynamic. Use the points requirement displayed in your account. The 5,000-points-for-about-$5 statement is Microsoft’s broad example, not a Fortnite conversion.

“My card code does not work.”
Confirm that you are using the correct Epic account, that the card region matches the account, and that you followed the secondary-code step for Xbox or PlayStation. Retain the receipt and contact the card retailer or Epic support if the PIN was damaged or already redeemed.
“My Microsoft balance is not offered at checkout.”
Microsoft gift-card funds are limited to eligible purchases under the offer’s terms. Do not assume they can pay for every Epic or Fortnite transaction. Check the checkout’s accepted payment methods and the balance’s expiration.

“The balance disappeared after redemption.”
The cited U.S. Xbox Rewards listing says its promotional balance expires 90 days after deposit and can be spent only on eligible purchases. That term is specific to that listing and must not be generalized to every country or card; read the terms shown in your own dashboard.
What to check before spending points or money
- Your Microsoft Rewards account region and the country where you are redeeming.
- The live points cost, denomination, expiration and eligible-purchase language.
- Whether the offer is an Xbox card, Microsoft card, Fortnite Gift Card or legacy V-Bucks card.
- The Epic account and console account that will receive the purchase.
- Whether Nintendo restrictions affect your intended device.
- Whether the retailer currently has stock and whether the card is valid in your country.

How do I get free V-Bucks with Microsoft Rewards?
Earn points, inspect the Rewards dashboard for a local Xbox or Microsoft gift-card offer, redeem only under your account’s regional terms, and confirm that the resulting balance is accepted for your intended Fortnite checkout. There is no guaranteed direct V-Bucks reward.
Can I use Microsoft Rewards points for V-Bucks?
Possibly through a region-specific gift-card route, but not universally. Microsoft gift-card balance and Fortnite Gift Card funds are different products, and the available checkout, platform and account region determine whether the route works.
