Yes—in modern retail World of Warcraft, Horde and Alliance characters can generally raid together in an organized Timewalking group, provided the specific instance allows cross-faction entry. You’ll need to join a premade group rather than rely on random matchmaking. This does not apply to World of Warcraft: Forever, whose announced rules keep the factions separate.
How cross-faction Timewalking raids work in retail WoW
Cross-faction play is available for organized groups. In an eligible raid, members of opposing factions are friendly and can assist one another in combat, trade loot, and earn shared achievements, as Blizzard explained in its May 25, 2022 cross-faction feature overview.
That rule does not mean every activity automatically mixes factions. Blizzard’s 9.2.5 notes say random matchmade activities remain same-faction. For a Timewalking raid, plan on assembling or applying to an organized premade group.
How to join the same raid as an opposite-faction friend
- Get invited directly: You and the other player must be BattleTag or Real ID friends, or members of a cross-faction WoW Community.
- Apply through Group Finder: Look for a premade raid listing that accepts both factions. The group leader can set a listing to accept only the leader’s faction, so check the listing or ask before applying.
Blizzard’s cross-faction instance guidance describes these routes and the leader’s ability to limit applicants by faction.

Check whether the particular raid permits it
Blizzard’s documented legacy exceptions include these instances, which cross-faction parties cannot enter:
- Trial of the Champion
- Trial of the Crusader
- Vault of Archavon
- Icecrown Citadel
- Baradin Hold
- Siege of Boralus
- Battle of Dazar’alor
- Darkmaul Citadel
The general cross-faction rule does not override these exceptions. Blizzard’s instance guidance is the reference for the listed restrictions.

Timewalking raid example: Black Temple
Black Temple during Burning Crusade Timewalking illustrates why an organized group matters: Blizzard’s Turbulent Timeways event instructions describe it as a Normal raid, not a Raid Finder activity, and direct players to form a group with friends or a guild or use Group Finder. That event’s guidance gives a 10–30 player group range, with characters and gear scaled for the raid. Those details describe this Black Temple event; check the current in-game event listing rather than assuming every Timewalking raid uses the same setup.
Retail and World of Warcraft: Forever are different
Do not carry the retail answer over to World of Warcraft: Forever. In its September 21, 2026 ruleset announcement, Blizzard says Horde and Alliance players still cannot group together in Forever.

When the Timewalking raid quest returns
If you mean the “Disturbance Detected” quest, Blizzard’s July 2023 patch notes say it resets and becomes available again when the Timewalking raid returns.
