YouTube’s published general rules focus on channel verification, having no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and being at least 16. Its name-change guidance does not say that a pending rename disables streaming or guarantee that access will be unaffected. Check your channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before you go live.
What YouTube’s rules say about a pending name change
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also says a person must be at least 16 to live stream. A pending channel-name change is not listed as an eligibility condition in that guidance.
YouTube says a changed name may take a few days to appear across the platform. Its profile instructions do not say that live streaming is suspended while the update is pending, but they also do not promise that every channel’s access will remain unchanged. For an individual channel, Studio’s feature status and any restriction notice are the practical checks.
Check live-stream access in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to the Google account that owns the channel, and confirm you have selected the right channel.
- Open YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Features.
- Check whether live streaming is available. Phone verification unlocks live streaming as a channel feature, but a restriction or strike can affect feature access.
- If live streaming is unavailable, read any channel-specific restriction notice and follow the instructions or appeal process shown there. Confirm that live streaming has been enabled for the channel.
Public help pages describe general requirements; they cannot show the current status of a particular account. Studio is the relevant place to check your channel’s access.

Do not confuse feature access with the verification badge
YouTube uses verification in two different senses. Channel verification for feature access is distinct from the public verification badge displayed next to some channel names.
- Phone verification is how a channel unlocks live streaming as a feature, subject to restrictions.
- Changing a channel name removes its public verification badge. YouTube says a renamed channel that had a badge must reapply for it.
- YouTube says the badge does not provide extra features. Its badge guidance does not say that losing the badge by itself disables live streaming.
Mobile streams have extra eligibility requirements
The general rule is not the whole checklist if you plan to stream from the YouTube mobile app. Mobile live streaming has additional requirements that YouTube does not list as universal requirements for webcam, encoder, or console streams.

| Streaming method | Requirements or considerations |
|---|---|
| Mobile | At least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming turned on. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. |
| Webcam, encoder, or console | The general live-streaming eligibility rules still apply. The mobile subscriber minimum and first-stream activation wait are not stated as universal requirements for these methods. |
For a mobile channel with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience size and set the archived stream to private by default. YouTube says it may take several weeks after reaching 1,000 subscribers for that limitation to be removed.
What to do if access is restricted
YouTube identifies Community Guidelines and copyright actions among reasons live-streaming functionality may be turned off temporarily or permanently. Other age- or content-related circumstances can also lead to restrictions. Treat an active restriction notice as separate from the pending name update and follow the notice’s instructions.

Do not try to get around an active live-streaming restriction by broadcasting from another channel. YouTube prohibits using another channel to stream during the restriction period and may treat it as circumvention.

No streaming service can replace YouTube’s account eligibility checks or override an active restriction. Once the channel is eligible, StreamNeo can keep an uploaded video or playlist looping as a YouTube live stream from the cloud; it is not a way to stream from a camera or bypass a channel restriction.
