Usually, no. YouTube’s published instructions say that a channel must be verified to livestream, and phone verification is the documented step that unlocks the feature. If you have no phone number that can receive YouTube’s verification code by text or voice call, YouTube does not document another way to complete that requirement. Switching from a phone to a computer, webcam, or encoder does not bypass it.
Why YouTube asks for phone verification
YouTube lists live streaming as a feature unlocked after account verification. Its account-verification instructions ask you to enter a phone number and receive a code by text or voice call. YouTube says one phone number can verify no more than two channels per year.
That verification gate is separate from the equipment you use to broadcast. A computer, webcam, or encoder changes how you create a stream; it does not remove the channel’s general verification requirement. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance also requires that the channel have no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days.
What to check in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel. Have the channel owner or, for a Brand Account, an authorized owner or manager check the settings.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Check whether the channel is verified and whether live streaming is available. YouTube’s feature access guidance explains how to review eligibility.
- If verification is still required, follow the on-screen instructions. YouTube’s documented method requires a number that can receive a text or voice call. The person authorized to verify depends on whether the channel is a Brand Account.
- After verification, check for other eligibility limits. A live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days can prevent streaming independently of phone verification.
Who can verify the channel?
For a Brand Account, an owner or manager can verify the phone number. For a channel that is not a Brand Account, only the channel owner can do so. If you do not see the expected setting, confirm that you are signed in with the right account and have the required role.

Does using a computer, webcam, or encoder help?
No—not with the phone-verification requirement. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming, but changing the method does not bypass the general channel-verification gate.

What if you do not have a phone number?
If you cannot access a number that YouTube accepts for verification, the documented next step is to wait until you can complete the verification prompt—not to change streaming equipment. YouTube’s published guidance does not guarantee that a borrowed, virtual, or other third-party number will be accepted, so do not rely on one as a workaround. Follow the verification options shown for your channel.
If you are considering someone else’s number, get their permission and understand that YouTube limits a number to verifying no more than two channels per year. Do not try to stream from another channel to evade an active restriction: YouTube prohibits that. See its live-streaming tips and policies.

Common problems and what to do
- Live streaming is missing or unavailable: Check Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and complete any verification prompt shown there.
- The verification code does not arrive: Confirm the number can receive texts or voice calls, then follow YouTube’s available on-screen options. The published instructions do not establish that every number type will work.
- You are using a Brand Account: Ask an owner or manager to complete the relevant check. For a non-Brand Account channel, the channel owner must do it.
- You are trying mobile streaming on a new channel: Check the mobile-specific subscriber and device requirements; after enabling, initial activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The channel is verified but still cannot go live: Check whether a live-streaming restriction applies, including one imposed within the last 90 days.
