But YouTube’s documented workflow does not include a built-in button to loop an archived replay, and its help pages do not specifically guarantee or endorse replay looping. Before you start, check the replay’s music and other rights, and consider whether the new stream offers viewers distinct value.
What YouTube’s documented tools do—and don’t—do
YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room lets you create a new stream and reuse settings from a previous one. Reusing settings copies metadata, settings, and the stream key; you can then change the new stream’s settings. YouTube’s encoder instructions tell creators to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in their encoder. Those documented steps establish how to start an encoder-based live stream, but they do not describe a dedicated “loop this replay” feature. YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream and encoder setup guidance cover the relevant workflow.
YouTube also explains that a channel may post a replay or highlights after a live stream ends; the replay appears as a video on the channel. That describes the archive, not a way to turn it into a new live event. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance does not say that an archived video can be looped directly from the channel.
In practice, rebroadcasting is plausible if your chosen encoder can take the replay file or playback as its video input. That is an inference from the encoder workflow, not a YouTube-stated replay-loop method. The exact steps depend on where the replay is stored, its format, and the encoder you use.

How to set up a new encoder stream
- Check that you can use the replay. Locate a copy of the recording that your encoder can play as an input. Confirm that the video and audio play correctly before scheduling or starting the stream. YouTube’s cited help pages do not specify how to obtain or route an archived replay into a particular encoder.
- Create a new stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a new encoder stream. You can set it up from scratch or choose “Reuse settings” on a previous stream, then review and change the copied metadata and settings as needed. Reuse settings copies the stream key as well as metadata and settings.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube compares the key to a password and address, so do not share it or expose it in a recording or public view. If someone else gets access to the key, replace it in YouTube Studio and update your encoder.
- Use the replay as the encoder’s input. Select the replay as the video source in your encoder and confirm that the encoder is sending the intended audio and picture. How to select a file, player, or other input varies by encoder; YouTube’s cited instructions do not prescribe those software-specific steps.
- Preview and start the stream. Check the incoming picture and audio in Live Control Room before going live. Start the encoder’s stream, then monitor YouTube for warnings or interruptions.
Clear music and other rights before rebroadcasting
Having created the gameplay recording does not establish that you own or have permission to rebroadcast every part of it. Review the whole replay, including background music, menu music, overlays, and any other third-party material. YouTube’s Live Stream Terms make the provider responsible for necessary rights, expressly including music licensing rights: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube Live Stream Terms and Conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects such content, it may warn you, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. A previous stream having remained online is not a guarantee that its audio or video is cleared for another broadcast. Copyright and monetization are separate questions
Having permission to rebroadcast a replay does not by itself settle whether the new stream meets YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube says its monetization policy applies to live streams. Its policy describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” and says reused-content review considers whether repurposed material adds significant original commentary, substantive modifications, or educational or entertainment value. The policy does not say that every rebroadcast of your own archive is automatically disallowed, nor does adding commentary guarantee monetization.
If you rebroadcast, consider giving the event a distinct purpose: add live commentary or context, edit the replay meaningfully, or build a new challenge or discussion around it. These can make the stream more useful to viewers, but do not guarantee a particular monetization decision. YouTube’s policy page notes a July 15, 2025 clarification that renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says the reused-content policy did not change. Check the current YouTube channel monetization policies.
