Cobblemon is made for Minecraft: Java Edition, while Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S run Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. To play Cobblemon itself, you’ll need Java Edition on a supported computer; on Xbox, you can look for separate Bedrock add-ons, but they are not Cobblemon.
Why Cobblemon does not run on Xbox
Cobblemon’s installation guide says the mod is available for Java Edition and that differences between the editions mean Cobblemon is not available on Bedrock. Minecraft lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S among Bedrock platforms, while Java Edition is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux (Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock edition guide).
This is an edition compatibility issue, not a setting you can change in Xbox Minecraft. Installing a controller, using a Realm, or joining a server does not turn the Xbox Bedrock client into Java Edition.
How to play the actual Cobblemon mod
Use Minecraft: Java Edition on a supported computer, then follow Cobblemon’s current installation instructions. The guide describes installation through the Modrinth, Prism, and CurseForge launchers; use its current directions rather than assuming a particular game or mod version will remain current.

Minecraft Help describes Java mods as third-party content that Mojang Studios does not create, review, or endorse. It also warns that modding can cause the game to malfunction or become unplayable, and that Minecraft Support cannot provide help with mod-use issues (Minecraft Help: Installing mods).
Xbox alternatives: Bedrock add-ons, not Cobblemon
Bedrock supports add-ons that can introduce custom blocks, items, mobs, recipes, and other content. Marketplace content is available on platforms that run Bedrock, which includes Xbox (Minecraft add-ons). These are separate from the Java Cobblemon mod. The sources do not establish that an official Cobblemon add-on is available for Xbox, so check a specific add-on’s creator, compatibility details, and current Marketplace listing before downloading or buying it.

Can an Xbox player join a friend’s Cobblemon world?
Not as a normal Minecraft client. Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements specify that Bedrock players need a Bedrock game and Java-hosted games require Java (Minecraft multiplayer guide). An Xbox Bedrock client therefore cannot join a Java Cobblemon world through ordinary edition-compatible multiplayer.

What to choose
- You want Cobblemon itself: play Java Edition on a supported computer and install the mod using Cobblemon’s guide.
- You have only an Xbox: browse Bedrock add-ons, understanding that a creature-themed add-on is not automatically Cobblemon.
- You want to play with a friend: make sure you are both using the same Minecraft edition for the world you plan to join.
