Yes, but DOOM Eternal does not run natively on the refrigerator. In the 2020 demonstration, the game streamed through Xbox’s cloud-gaming service on an Android device and was mirrored to a Samsung Family Hub refrigerator display. The fridge served as a screen; an Xbox-compatible controller supplied the game input.
What the fridge demonstration actually showed
On 13 October 2020, Windows Central reported that Instagram user Richard Mallard had shown DOOM Eternal streaming to a Samsung smart fridge. The report described an Android version of xCloud sideloaded onto a device, with the game image appearing on the fridge screen. SBT Games also described the setup as Xbox Game Pass/xCloud on the refrigerator display.
That is a real gameplay display demonstration, but it is not evidence of a DOOM Eternal version installed on the refrigerator. Samsung documents a Smart View feature that mirrors a Samsung phone or tablet to the Family Hub panel. The phone or tablet handles the stream; the refrigerator displays its image.
How playing on a Family Hub works
- Stream the game to a supported device. Xbox currently lists DOOM Eternal as cloud playable with eligible Game Pass tiers. Its listing specifies the control method as “Play with controller.” The 2020 demonstration was reported to use an Android/xCloud route.
- Mirror the device to the fridge. Samsung’s Family Hub screen-mirroring instructions say to connect the Samsung phone or tablet and Family Hub to the same Wi-Fi network, select Smart View on the mobile device, and allow the connection on the refrigerator.
- Use a controller for input. Xbox’s listing calls for a controller. The fridge’s documented role is mirroring the mobile device’s display, not running the game locally.
What to expect from the display
Windows Central noted portrait-orientation letterboxing in the reported demo. The available reports do not provide measured latency, frame rate, or image-quality results, so they do not establish how responsive or sharp the game was in that setup.

DOOM Eternal was developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, and launched on 20 March 2020, according to Xbox’s game listing. Its cloud availability is subject to eligible Game Pass tiers and regional service availability; check Xbox’s current listing for the applicable details.

What you need to try it
- A Samsung Family Hub refrigerator model that supports Smart View mirroring. Samsung’s instructions cover Family Hub; they do not establish that every Samsung refrigerator has this feature.
- A Samsung phone or tablet capable of Smart View, with both it and the Family Hub connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Access to Xbox cloud gaming for DOOM Eternal in your region through an eligible Game Pass tier, plus a compatible controller.
