Sony ended support on every Samsung TV model on August 15, 2017, so buying a compatible controller or changing TV settings will not restore access. The Samsung integration was a real service, but it was a short-lived, discontinued feature—not a current way to play PS Now.
What the Samsung TV announcement promised
Sony Computer Entertainment and Samsung Electronics announced the integration on December 23, 2014, with a planned rollout in the first half of 2015 for select Samsung Smart TVs in the United States and Canada. It was an app integration through Samsung Smart Hub, not a PlayStation console launch.
The service streamed PlayStation 3 games from the cloud directly to the TV. Sony said players would not need a console, game downloads or a trip to a store. Its announcement described more than 200 PS3 titles across action/adventure, racing, RPG and family-friendly categories. Samsung’s implementation was also described as supporting trophies, online play with friends and cloud game saves.
Samsung later described its upgraded 2016 Smart TV Games offering as including more than 400 streaming games and 100 downloadable games. Those figures refer to Samsung’s broader upgraded games offering, not a guaranteed PlayStation Now catalog.

Why did PlayStation Now disappear from Samsung TVs?
On February 15, 2017, Sony announced that PS Now would stop working on all Samsung TV models on August 15, 2017. Sign-ups on affected devices ended earlier, on March 15, 2017. Sony said it was shifting development focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the experience on those platforms.
Sony’s 2019 compatibility explainer also said PS Now was not supported on smart TVs, smartphones or tablets. The Samsung TV app is therefore a discontinued feature, not an app that can be recovered through a newer Samsung model or a fresh installation.

What the original setup required
For the original Samsung implementation, Samsung specified a compatible Samsung Smart TV, a free PlayStation Network account, a DUALSHOCK 4 controller and broadband internet of 5 Mbps or greater. Those were requirements for the historical service; they do not make PS Now available on a Samsung TV today.
- Controller: DUALSHOCK 4 was the specified controller.
- Account: A free PlayStation Network account was required.
- Internet: Samsung specified a broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps.
- TV: The offer applied to select compatible Samsung Smart TVs, with the original rollout announced for the United States and Canada.
A DUALSHOCK 4 may still be useful for compatible PlayStation gaming elsewhere, but it cannot re-enable the retired Samsung TV app.

Can you still use a Samsung TV for PS Now?
No. Sony’s announced end date covered all Samsung TV models, and its later guidance excluded smart TVs. There is no supported Samsung TV route to PS Now established by these Sony and Samsung announcements. Do not buy a Samsung TV—or a controller—with the expectation that it will provide PS Now access.
