What Nintendo Switch Online does—and does not—include
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack provides access to the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics library. That is a curated catalog, not a license to play every game originally released for GBA. Nintendo’s Pokémon Classics FAQ identifies Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team as a Pokémon title in the library and says, “We have nothing to announce regarding any other potential titles.” Ruby and Sapphire are not listed. So subscribing to Expansion Pack does not currently unlock either Hoenn adventure. Nintendo’s documented way to access the Classics is through its library software on Switch, not by inserting a GBA cartridge or attaching a cartridge adapter. Nintendo announced FireRed and LeafGreen for Switch with a US suggested retail price of $19.99 and a February 27 release date. If you specifically want the original Ruby or Sapphire
You will need compatible Game Boy Advance-era hardware and a legitimate copy of the corresponding cartridge. The cartridge itself does not provide a way to play the game on Switch. This follows from Nintendo’s documented Switch Classics access method: the games are launched through the Classics library software, and neither title appears in the published Pokémon list. Nintendo has not announced either game for Nintendo Classics in the cited FAQ; its statement is that it has nothing to announce about other potential Pokémon titles. That is not confirmation of a future release. Catalogs can change, so check Nintendo’s current Classics catalog and eShop if you are revisiting this question later.
