The project called prosper is an experimental compatibility layer that aims to run selected PS5 game binaries on Linux or Windows. Its maintainers report title-specific progress, not a general way to play a PS5 library on PC.
What “Prospero OS on PC” means—and what it does not
Prospero is the name associated with the PlayStation 5’s system software, but the project’s official materials describe prosper as a compatibility layer for game software. They do not claim that the full PS5 operating system has been launched on a PC. The project loads selected game modules and supplies compatible system services through the host computer.
The distinction matters: running some game binaries through a compatibility layer is not the same as booting a console’s complete operating system, nor does it make every PS5 game playable. The project README describes the project as experimental and independent of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
How prosper runs PS5 game code
The PS5 uses an x86-64 processor, so prosper can run guest CPU instructions natively on a compatible x86-64 PC rather than emulate a different processor architecture. The challenging work is providing the interfaces and graphics behavior the game expects.

- Heighten Your Senses. Discover Deeper, highly immersive gaming experiences.
- Feel your in-game actions and environment simulated through haptic feedback
- Chat online through the built-in microphone or connect a headset directly via the 3.5mm jack
- Play on more devices Connect using a USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth wireless technology so you can easily play on more devices including Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones.
- Elevate PC gaming with advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in a range titles
- Loads game modules: The project loads Sony SELF/ELF modules into a shared address space.
- Reimplements system libraries: It provides PS5-facing services using facilities available on the host and handles differences between console and host application interfaces.
- Translates graphics work: It translates AGC graphics command streams to Vulkan and includes an RDNA2-to-SPIR-V shader recompiler.
That makes prosper closer to a compatibility layer than a conventional whole-system emulator or a PC port of the PS5 operating system. The README also describes the project as an experiment in organizing AI-assisted reverse engineering, with human direction and review.
What the compatibility results actually show
The maintainers’ compatibility overview, dated October 1, 2026, tracks 61 titles and reports results primarily from specific user-supplied dumps tested on Linux. Its categories are progress milestones, not promises that a title is complete or reliably playable.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
| Documented status | Titles | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Gameplay reached with the scene rendering | 28 | The gameplay scene rendered, but this deliberately loose milestone can include a degraded scene and does not establish that the full game works. |
| Title screen/menu reached, or gameplay without a rendered world | 19 | Some startup or gameplay progress is documented, but a rendered gameplay world is not established for this group. |
| Below a title screen | 2 | The tracked route did not reach a title screen. |
| Booted without a frame containing content | 12 | The title booted, but no frame with content was produced. |
| Tracked but not yet attempted | 0 | All titles in this tracker had been attempted. |
| Total tracked | 61 | These are maintainer-reported tracker counts, not a measure of all PS5 games. |
These figures are the maintainers’ published counts for the October 1, 2026 overview; they are not independently measured performance or a library-wide compatibility rate. The result for an individual game can depend on its revision. Check that title’s compatibility entry for the documented route and limitations rather than treating the aggregate count as evidence that a particular game is playable.
What a Windows PC needs
The project’s Windows guide specifies a 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation, an x86-64 CPU, and a graphics driver capable of Vulkan 1.1. It also describes a title directory conventionally named <TITLE_ID>-app0, containing eboot.bin and the game’s other files. See the Windows setup guide for the project’s current instructions.

- Multi-device connectivity - Connect using a USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth technology and easily play on more devices including Windows PC and Mac computers.
- Elevate PC gaming with advanced features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in a range of blockbuster PC titles.
Meeting these host requirements does not establish that a given game will work: compatibility remains specific to each title and tested route. The cited Windows guide documents those requirements; the dated compatibility overview says its results were primarily tested on Linux, so its counts should not be read as confirmation of equivalent Windows behavior.
Game files, keys, and project caveats
The repository does not include game files, console keys, or Sony code. Users must provide their own legally obtained game dump; the README says prosper operates on module segments that are already unencrypted. The project does not provide a game picker that supplies titles for users.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
The README says there is no support or release schedule and that there is no license file, so no license is granted by default. Its own description is clear: “This is not a product. There is no support, no release schedule, and no claim that any title works beyond the specific route documented for it.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you play PS5 games on a regular PC with prosper?
Some specific PS5 game binaries have reached documented milestones on prosper, but that is not the same as a dependable way to play PS5 games on PC. The project is an experimental compatibility layer, and the useful question is whether the exact game revision has a documented route—not whether the aggregate tracker shows titles reaching gameplay.
