Sometimes. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so a qualifying digital purchase can be played on both Xbox and Windows PC at no extra charge. But that does not establish that every older Xbox purchase—or an Xbox disc—includes a PC license. Check the game in the Microsoft Store or Xbox library while signed in to the account that owns it, and confirm that a PC install is offered.
When an Xbox purchase includes the PC version
CD PROJEKT RED says The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is available to buy through the Microsoft Store as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Microsoft’s program applies to supported digital games marked with the Xbox Play Anywhere badge. Microsoft explains: “When you own a digital game that supports XBOX Play Anywhere through the XBOX Store or the Windows Store, it’s yours to play on your XBOX console, Windows 10/11 PC and supported gaming handheld at no additional cost.” The game must be played using the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns the qualifying digital license.

So, the key question is not simply whether you bought The Witcher 3 on an Xbox. It is whether the account and purchase you have qualify for the PC install. A game being sold for Xbox does not automatically mean its Xbox license also covers Windows.
What your Xbox purchase means for PC access
| What you own | What the official information establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Remastered purchase through the Microsoft Store | Remastered is an Xbox Play Anywhere title; qualifying digital ownership includes Xbox and Windows PC access at no extra cost. | Sign in with the purchasing account and look for the PC install in your Microsoft Store or Xbox library. |
| Xbox Series X|S copy eligible for the free Remastered upgrade | CD PROJEKT RED lists Xbox Series X|S owners among those receiving a free upgrade. That upgrade statement alone does not confirm PC access for every older license. | Check whether Remastered appears as installable on PC under the owning account. |
| Xbox One digital purchase | The cited official announcements do not establish that every Xbox One purchase automatically grants the Windows PC license. Xbox Wire also notes free expansions for Xbox One base-game owners, which is not the same as a PC license. | Check the account library for the PC install; do not infer entitlement from expansion access. |
| Xbox disc | Xbox Play Anywhere applies to digital games. A disc by itself is not established as a PC license. | Check for a separate digital entitlement on the owning account. |
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement describes the free upgrade for Xbox Series X|S owners and the Microsoft Store Play Anywhere edition. Xbox Wire’s August 25, 2026 announcement confirms Play Anywhere support, but does not provide a detailed license-history ruling for every Xbox One purchase type.
#1 Best Overall
- PLAY AS A HIGHLY TRAINED MONSTER SLAYER FOR HIRE: Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Gruesomely destroy foes as a professional monster hunter armed with a range of upgradeable weapons, mutating potions, and combat magic.
- Hunt down a wide variety of exotic monsters, from savage beasts prowling mountain passes to cunning supernatural predators lurking in the shadowy back alleys of densely populated cities. Invest your rewards to upgrade your weaponry and buy custom armor, or spend them on horse races, card games, fist fighting, and other pleasures life brings.
- EXPLORE A MORALLY AMBIGUOUS FANTASY OPEN WORLD: Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity. Traverse a fantastical open world: explore forgotten ruins, caves, and shipwrecks, trade with merchants and dwarven smiths in cities, and hunt across the open plains, mountains, and seas. Deal with treasonous generals, devious witches, and corrupt royalty to provide dark and dangerous services. Make choices that go beyond good & evil, and face their far-reaching consequences.
- TRACK DOWN THE CHILD OF PROPHECY: Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world. In times of war, chase down the child of prophecy, a living weapon foretold by ancient elven legends. Struggle against ferocious rulers, spirits of the wilds, and even a threat from beyond the veil – all hell-bent on controlling this world. Define your destiny in a world that may not be worth saving.
How to check whether your account can install it on PC
- Sign in to the Microsoft Store or Xbox app on your Windows PC with the same Microsoft account that owns the Xbox game.
- Open your library and look for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. Check whether the listing offers a PC install rather than only showing console ownership or a purchase option.
- If the PC install is not available, check the purchase type and console generation. An Xbox disc is not a Play Anywhere digital license, and the documented free upgrade for Xbox Series X|S owners should not be treated as proof that every Xbox One license includes PC access.
- If no PC entitlement appears, the documented route is to acquire the Microsoft Store Xbox Play Anywhere edition.
Can you move your Xbox save to PC?
Save transfer is separate from game ownership: Cross Progression does not provide a PC license. If you have eligible copies on both platforms, CD PROJEKT RED’s Cross Progression feature can carry a save between them. The publisher requires the latest game patch and a CD PROJEKT RED account connected on both platforms.
- On Xbox, update the game, open Load Game, choose the Cross Progression control, and connect your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Create a new save so it uploads through Cross Progression.
- On the other platform, use My Rewards to connect the same CD PROJEKT RED account, then find the uploaded save in Load Game.
After account connection, Cross Progression is on by default; it can be changed at Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression.
Rank #2
- In the past he has raised and overthrown monarchs, battled legendary monsters and saved the lives of many. Now Geralt embarks on his most personal quest to save his loved ones and protect the world from an ancient threat.
- The story is drawn based on player decisions. Each action will have consequences which change the story and the game world. NPCs, communities, monsters and locations all change, based on player choice.
- The Witcher 3 is standalone adventure, easily entered into by new players. Witcher fans will find subtle references to their adventures, but these elements are not necessary to enjoy the game fully.
- A breathtaking cinematic introduction demonstrating the game background - this puts players immediately in the know about the situation in the war-ravaged Northern Kingdoms and the background story of the main character.
- Unique atmosphere, memorable characters and gritty dialog - the game world has its own unique feel. It is a classic dark fantasy tale that will appeal to fans of all kinds of fantasy stories.
Edition differences can affect console saves
CD PROJEKT RED says local console saves from the regular edition and the GOTY/Complete Edition are not compatible because consoles treat them as separate products. To continue a base-game save across those editions, the publisher recommends Cross Progression.
The publisher also says the store base game has been replaced by the Complete Edition, with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine included in the product. Its FAQ says save files remain compatible and Cross Progression continues to work through that packaging change. Edition and save compatibility do not establish whether your account owns the PC license.
