No. Pokémon Legends: Z-A released on October 16, 2025, so its pre-release preload window has passed. You can still buy the game and download the digital version to your Nintendo Switch; downloading a released game is not preloading it.
How to get Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Switch now
Choose between the digital Nintendo Switch version and a physical game card. Nintendo’s US listing records the game’s October 16, 2025 release and lists a physical Nintendo Switch edition: Nintendo’s US game listing. Check your regional Nintendo eShop or a retailer for current availability; the listing does not establish present prices or stock.
- Digital: Purchase the game through your regional Nintendo eShop, then download it to your console. Make sure the console has enough free storage.
- Physical: Buy the Nintendo Switch game card from a retailer. A physical copy is not a digital preload.
How Nintendo preloads eligible games before release
For a future, unreleased game that is eligible for eShop pre-order, Nintendo’s general process is to pre-order it in Nintendo eShop and follow the on-screen prompts. This policy does not change the release status of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Nintendo says pre-order payment and pre-loading begin no sooner than seven days before release. Once payment is processed, a non-playable version downloads to the console; it cannot be played until release, and a small update may be required to unlock it. A failed payment can cancel the pre-order. See Nintendo Support’s eShop pre-order and pre-load FAQ.
How much storage does the Switch download need?
Nintendo UK lists the Nintendo Switch download size as 6.0 GB. That figure is the listed download size, not a guarantee of the total free space needed after updates, and Nintendo notes that additional storage may be required. Check the free space on your own console before downloading. If you need more room, Nintendo specifies a compatible microSD card for Nintendo Switch; Nintendo Switch 2 uses a compatible microSD Express card. Details are on Nintendo UK’s game page.
