Recommended Free Tools
Sometimes, but the ₹1,000 budget is not enough to judge viability by itself. A small Indian VPS may fit the sticker-price and basic CPU/RAM targets, yet its monthly data allowance can be too small for a continuous stream. At YouTube’s recommended H.264 rates, 720p30 uses about 2.59 TB of outbound data over 30 days and 1080p30 about 4.54 TB, before overhead. Check the provider’s transfer rules, taxes and renewal cost before ordering; then test FFmpeg with your actual media and stream settings.
What a ₹1,000 monthly budget has to cover
A 24/7 stream sends video to YouTube continuously. The key budget question is therefore not just whether a VPS has enough CPU and RAM, but whether its included monthly transfer covers the outbound stream. YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 720p30 and 14 Mbps for H.264 1080p30. A provider’s advertised port speed is not the same as a monthly transfer allowance.
| H.264 video rate | YouTube guidance | Approximate transfer over 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| 14 Mbps | 1080p30 recommended | 4.54 TB, before overhead |
| 8 Mbps | 720p30 recommended | 2.59 TB, before overhead |
| 5 Mbps | 1080p30 minimum listed | 1.62 TB, before overhead |
| 3 Mbps | 720p30 minimum listed | 0.97 TB, before overhead |
Transfer figures are calculations using a steady bitrate for 30 days and decimal units: bitrate multiplied by seconds, divided by eight. They exclude protocol and mux overhead; audio, actual uptime, bitrate variation and a provider’s traffic-counting method can change the total. Minimum bitrate is not a guarantee of acceptable picture quality for every source. Leave headroom rather than budgeting right up to a quota. YouTube’s encoder guidance also notes that it transcodes live streams for viewers, so the VPS sends one chosen ingest stream rather than generating every viewer rendition itself (YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance).
What the listed Indian VPS examples include
The following are examples of listed plans, not endorsements or proof that a provider permits or reliably supports continuous streaming. Listed prices and availability can change. Confirm the current price, applicable GST, renewal amount, traffic definition, overage or throttling rules, and streaming-use terms directly with the provider before buying.

| Provider and plan | Listed monthly price and compute | Listed transfer and storage | What it means for continuous streaming |
|---|---|---|---|
| IndiaWebHost Cloud 1 | ₹499/month plus GST; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | 2 TB transfer; 40 GB NVMe | Below the approximate 2.59 TB needed for 720p30 at YouTube’s recommended H.264 rate, before overhead. |
| VyomCloud GPC.NANO02 | ₹360/month; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | 0.50 TB traffic; 20 GB storage | Far below the calculated monthly transfer at the cited 720p30 and 1080p30 settings. |
| VyomCloud GPC.MICRO02 | ₹1,040/month; 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM | 2 TB traffic; 40 GB storage | Over the stated ₹1,000 target and still below the calculated 720p30 recommended-rate transfer. The provider lists a 100 Mbps bandwidth figure and a 99.5% uptime SLA; that is an advertised SLA, not an independently measured stream-uptime result. |
| VPSWala VPS 2 | ₹298/month excluding GST; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | 100 GB transfer; 20 GB NVMe | Its listing says its catalogue and prices were reviewed 21 August 2026. The transfer allowance is far below the continuous-stream calculations. |
| AIC Cloud Essential 2 GB | ₹199/month; 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | 20 GB SSD; transfer allowance not stated | The listing includes an India (Mumbai) deployment option, but without a stated transfer allowance it cannot be judged suitable for 24/7 streaming. |
These listings illustrate the central constraint: low-cost compute is available, but the examples do not establish a plan within the target budget that includes enough traffic for YouTube’s recommended 720p or 1080p rates. A provider may offer a separate bandwidth product, a different billing arrangement or terms that suit a lower bitrate; verify those details rather than assuming the advertised monthly price is the total cost. The pages do not establish each provider’s permission for continuous streaming, overage rates, quota enforcement or the quality of its route to YouTube ingest.
Choose the FFmpeg workload before choosing a VPS
Copy compatible pre-encoded media when possible
If a recording already has compatible video and audio streams at the resolution and frame rate you want, FFmpeg can remux or copy them instead of performing real-time video encoding. This usually demands less CPU than software transcoding, but you still need to test the actual files, sustained network delivery and VPS limits. Check that the source is accessible on the server and has the intended duration, audio and video tracks.

Transcode only after testing the target settings
Real-time software encoding at a chosen codec, resolution and frame rate is a different workload from copying a compatible file. The available evidence does not establish a universally adequate vCPU or RAM minimum for a particular FFmpeg build or VPS plan. Run a sustained test with your own source and watch CPU use, dropped frames, output bitrate and YouTube stream health before relying on it.
Configure YouTube Live and the ingest settings
- Create or select a broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live broadcast and retrieve its current ingest URL and stream key. Use the current values shown there rather than credentials copied from a tutorial. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and recommends RTMPS, its secure extension (Google’s YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide).
- Choose the output profile. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, and warns against intervals longer than four seconds. Its H.264 guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30; the listed minimums are 3 Mbps and 5 Mbps respectively. Stereo audio guidance is AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz, with 128 kbps listed for stereo audio. The guide also lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codecs and frame rates up to 60 fps. Treat these as platform guidance, not a promise that your VPS network can sustain the required output.
- Test before scheduling a continuous run. Start a test broadcast at the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you intend to use. Watch YouTube’s stream health and messages, along with FFmpeg output and VPS CPU/network metrics. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health; do not assume a process that starts is delivering a healthy feed.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key as a password. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, repository or shared log. Store it in a file readable only by the account that runs the stream, and restrict access to the VPS account and administrators. If a key is exposed, replace it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the server configuration.
Install FFmpeg and run a basic file loop
The example below is for a Debian- or Ubuntu-family VPS with systemd. Package names and repositories vary by operating system; install FFmpeg through the distribution’s supported package source and check the installed version with ffmpeg -version. First upload the source file to the VPS and confirm its tracks with ffprobe. The example copies an already-compatible file and loops it; it does not make an incompatible file compatible by magic.

- Install and inspect. Run
sudo apt update && sudo apt install ffmpeg. Then runffprobe -hide_banner /srv/youtube/source.mp4and confirm the expected video and audio streams, codecs, dimensions and frame rate. - Create a dedicated account and media directory. For example, create a system user named
ytstream, make/srv/youtubereadable by that account, and copy the recording there. Use a directory with enough storage for all media you plan to keep; a single VPS disk allowance does not increase its transfer quota. - Store the destination privately. Create a root-owned environment file such as
/etc/ytstream.envwith restrictive permissions. Put the complete current RTMPS publish destination in a variable such asRTMPS_URL, using the endpoint and key from Live Control Room. Set ownership to root and permissions to600. Do not paste the real key into a public unit file or this article’s sample command. - Run a short manual test as the service user. Substitute the private destination for
$RTMPS_URLafter loading the protected environment file. For a compatible H.264/AAC file, a basic loop-and-copy command isffmpeg -hide_banner -re -stream_loop -1 -i /srv/youtube/source.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a copy -f flv "$RTMPS_URL". Use the RTMPS destination supplied by YouTube. Check FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s preview/stream health. Copy mode preserves the file’s encoded streams; it does not impose CBR or fix a mismatched codec, frame rate, keyframe cadence or audio format. - Transcode if the source requires it. For example, an H.264/AAC transcode profile can use
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100for a 30 fps, 720p target, with output dimensions explicitly set using a suitable scale filter. Adjust GOP/keyframe values to the actual frame rate: a two-second interval is 60 frames at 30 fps, not at every frame rate. This is an example profile, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode it in real time. Measure before making it the always-on configuration.
For a playlist of files, make a concat-demuxer list with valid paths and compatible streams, or build a playlist workflow that explicitly handles transitions and differing formats. A single-file -stream_loop -1 command repeats that file; it is not a playlist manager. Test end-of-file transitions, audio continuity and reconnect behavior with the exact content set. Only stream video and audio for which you have the necessary rights. YouTube’s copyright rules and monetization policies also apply to continuous streams; having a file or a license for one use does not automatically authorize every live or repeated use.
Keep FFmpeg running with systemd—and monitor it
A systemd service can start FFmpeg after boot and restart the process after an exit. It cannot guarantee uninterrupted YouTube delivery, repair a broken source file, restore a failed VPS network, or prove that YouTube has accepted the feed. For example, create /etc/systemd/system/ytstream.service with a protected environment file and a command suited to your media:

Adapt the executable path, user, media path and FFmpeg arguments to the server. Check how your shell/systemd version handles a destination containing special characters; do not expose the key while debugging. Then load and enable the unit with sudo systemctl daemon-reload, sudo systemctl enable --now ytstream.service, and inspect it with sudo systemctl status ytstream.service and sudo journalctl -u ytstream.service -f. Confirm that the feed appears healthy in Live Control Room. After any restart, check both the local service logs and YouTube’s stream health.
Set up a way to notice that the service has failed or the feed is unhealthy, and periodically test reboot and network/process recovery. A restart policy addresses process exits; it does not prove zero downtime, and automatic reconnect behavior should be tested rather than assumed.

Common failures and what to check
- Stream stops when the monthly quota is reached: Compare the provider’s counted egress with the planned bitrate and uptime. Check whether extra traffic is billed, throttled or blocked, and reduce the stream rate only after testing picture quality and YouTube health.
- YouTube reports a weak or unstable stream: Check the VPS’s sustained outbound throughput and route to the current ingest endpoint, not just the advertised port speed. Lower bitrate or resolution for a test, leave capacity headroom and inspect dropped frames and stream-health warnings.
- FFmpeg exits or YouTube rejects the feed: Review
journalctland FFmpeg’s error output. Verify the current endpoint and key, account/broadcast state, source file availability, codecs, output muxer and server time/network status. Rotate the key if it may have been exposed. - CPU stays saturated or frames fall behind: Determine whether FFmpeg is copying or transcoding. Try a compatible source in copy mode, or lower resolution/frame rate/encoding complexity and run a sustained test. Do not assume one vCPU can encode a given profile.
- Audio is missing, silent or out of sync: Inspect the source tracks with
ffprobe, confirm the chosen audio map and codec, and test a representative segment. Mixed or inconsistent source files may need normalization before playlisting. - The process restarts but the channel remains offline: A running systemd unit is not the same as a healthy YouTube broadcast. Check Live Control Room, destination credentials, network reachability and the service logs; test the complete failure-and-recovery path.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a VPS, FFmpeg process, quota and recovery checks is more work than you want, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; StreamNeo loops the uploaded media from the cloud. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card (one free day per account). The monthly price is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
Quick Recap
Questions to settle before committing to a VPS
- Does the provider explicitly allow sustained, continuous video streaming?
- Is transfer measured as outbound only or combined traffic, and what happens when the quota is exceeded?
- Does the total monthly bill include GST, renewal pricing, a public IP and any bandwidth add-on?
- Can the VPS sustain your chosen ingest bitrate on the actual route to YouTube, including audio and overhead?
- Do your files have consistent codecs, frame rates and audio tracks, and do you have rights to stream them repeatedly?
