Technically, YouTube supports livestreaming through an encoder, so a cloud-hosted encoder may be used for a continuous stream; YouTube does not guarantee a 24/7 broadcast or certify a particular Indian cloud provider. GST is a separate question: whether you need to register depends on your turnover, location, supplies, revenue arrangements and any applicable compulsory-registration rule or exception. The facts in the title alone cannot settle your personal GST position.
Can an Indian cloud service keep a YouTube stream running 24/7?
YouTube supports encoder-based livestreaming, one option alongside mobile, webcam and console streaming. An encoder sends a live feed to YouTube; hosting that encoder in the cloud is a possible setup. That does not mean YouTube has approved or certified a particular provider, or that every cloud virtual machine can handle every source, format or continuous workload.
YouTube’s documentation explains how to set up an encoder stream, but does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 availability. A provider’s capacity, network, recovery behavior and terms need to be checked separately.

Plan for the stream YouTube actually receives
Match the encoder’s bitrate and capacity to the resolution and codec you select. For H.264, YouTube’s published recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s platform recommendations, not a guarantee of the cloud capacity or upload bandwidth a particular provider must deliver under all conditions.

YouTube recommends testing before launch with representative audio and motion, monitoring stream health, and using RTMPS. Follow the encoder setup guidance for your chosen software and stream format rather than assuming a cloud server’s advertised resources alone establish stream quality.
Check the cloud service before committing
For an always-on encoder, assess the specific plan’s sustained compute capacity, outbound bandwidth and traffic charges, region and network latency, restart and recovery behavior, monitoring, support and total cost. These are practical checks, not verified claims about any particular Indian provider. Ask the provider how its limits apply to continuous video transmission and what happens after a process, machine or network failure.

Account for YouTube’s rules and limits
A cloud location does not exempt a broadcast from YouTube’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. YouTube may restrict livestreaming, and its live documentation lists current limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. Confirm the current requirements for your channel and content before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
Copyright and monetization are separate from the technical ability to send a stream. Make sure you have the necessary rights for all video, music, game footage and other material you broadcast; do not assume that looping a recording changes its copyright status or YouTube policy obligations.

Does running the stream without GST registration depend on your situation?
Yes. Whether you must register cannot be determined merely from the fact that you use an Indian cloud service or stream to YouTube. The Telangana State GST Department’s November 2025 handbook describes the general registration threshold as aggregate turnover of ₹20 lakh in a financial year, or ₹10 lakh in specified special-category states. Treat those figures as orientation, not an individual ruling: compulsory-registration provisions, exceptions and the details of your supplies may change the outcome.

- Your state or union territory and whether you operate as an individual, proprietorship or another entity.
- Your aggregate turnover across relevant supplies, not only income associated with the stream.
- Whether the channel is monetized, what payments you receive, who pays them and where that recipient is located.
- Whether you make other taxable supplies and whether a registration exception or compulsory-registration provision applies.
If any of those details are unknown, your registration position remains unresolved. A practitioner can apply the current rules to your facts; a general threshold or online FAQ cannot substitute for that assessment.
Why a cloud-export GST circular does not answer a creator’s tax question
CBIC Circular 232/26/2024-GST, dated 10 September 2024, addresses a specific transaction: data-hosting services supplied by a provider located in India to an overseas cloud-computing entity. It says that supply can be considered an export of services if the other conditions in section 2(6) of the IGST Act are met. It does not decide whether a creator’s YouTube-related payments are exports, identify the entity receiving those payments, or determine whether the creator crosses a registration threshold or falls under a compulsory-registration rule.

Do not apply that circular to your own income simply because your encoder or hosting service is located in India. The transaction described in the circular is different from a creator purchasing cloud hosting or receiving platform revenue.
