The October 7, 2026 report describes mixed results in a handful of games. Separately, Notebookcheck reports that the RPCS3 team considers the PS5’s CPU insufficient for properly emulating PS3 games; that commentary is not an endorsement or assessment of this specific homebrew build.
What was reported on PS5 Pro?
On October 7, 2026, Reddit user u/LavaVex said they had RPCS3 running as a native PS5 title on a jailbroken PS5 Pro with firmware 13.60. The post says the build used Vulkan through a community graphics-driver port and could be launched from the console’s home screen. These are the uploader’s claims, not independently verified test findings. Read the Reddit post.
Results varied by game
- Need for Speed Carbon: the uploader claimed it ran at a locked 60 fps, with audio and DualSense input. That figure describes one experimental test, not a general PS5 Pro result.
- inFAMOUS: the uploader said it booted and could be played, including saving and loading, but stuttered and slowed below full speed in heavier areas.
The post describes testing on one console with a handful of games. The uploader warns of crashes and games that do not work, and says the build is not official RPCS3 software. It does not establish repeatable performance across consoles or a broad level of game compatibility.
What did the RPCS3 team say about PS5 emulation?
Notebookcheck reported on September 8, 2026, that the RPCS3 team considers the PS5’s eight-core Zen 2 processor insufficient to properly emulate PS3 games. The article describes the discussion as a response to a question about whether Sony could have delivered PS3 compatibility officially, and says the team was more optimistic about future PS6-class hardware. This is secondary reporting of collective team commentary, not a named developer’s direct assessment of the PS5 Pro build described on Reddit. It does not show that RPCS3 has released, approved, or supported a PS5 port.
Is RPCS3 officially supported on PS5?
No. RPCS3’s official repository describes the project as a free, open-source PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger for Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD; PS5 is not listed as a supported platform. See the RPCS3 repository.

Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide documents supported console compatibility and features but does not list RPCS3 or PS3 emulation. See Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guide. Taken together with the uploader’s disclaimer, the reported setup is best understood as unofficial homebrew on a modified console—not a Sony-supported feature or an official RPCS3 release.
Does this mean a PS5 Pro can play PS3 games reliably?
No. A single user’s experimental demonstration and mixed results cannot establish general compatibility. The reported success in one game does not mean other PS3 titles will run, run at full speed, or remain stable. The report itself warns about crashes and broken games.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you play a PS3 game disc with this build?
The Reddit post says the builder used an Arch-based Linux machine and a bootstrap script to create an installable title folder. It says game files can be loaded from either the PS5’s internal storage or an exFAT USB drive, and that users must supply PS3 firmware and games. It does not establish that a PS3 disc can be inserted into the PS5 and played directly, or provide a general setup procedure. It also does not identify a required USB-drive model or show that a ready-to-install build is broadly available.
