Not as a launch pre-order. Nintendo Switch 2 launched in the United States on June 5, 2025, and its final U.S. retail pre-order window opened April 24, 2025. As of August 18, 2026, shoppers should look for an immediately purchasable console or a clearly dated retailer shipment instead. Nintendo’s announced U.S. MSRP is $449.99 before tax through August 31, 2026, rising to $499.99 on September 1, 2026.

The short answer
- The original Nintendo Switch 2 launch pre-order period is over.
- The console launched June 5, 2025.
- Nintendo’s U.S. page now directs customers to the Nintendo Store and select retailers for normal purchases.
- No Nintendo invitation has been required for direct purchases since August 28, 2025, although purchase limits may apply.
- The important current deadline is August 31, 2026: Nintendo’s announced U.S. MSRP increases by $50 on September 1.
A retailer may still use “pre-order” for a future shipment, restock allocation, accessory or special bundle. That is not the original launch reservation and does not automatically mean launch-day delivery.

Nintendo initially announced April 9, 2025 for U.S. and Canadian retail pre-orders. That date was later delayed. The final U.S. retail pre-order date was April 24, 2025. Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025.

That distinction matters because older search results may still say “pre-orders begin April 9.” April 9 was the superseded announcement; April 24 was the revised U.S. retail date.

Use Nintendo’s U.S. buying page as the live starting point. It links to the official Nintendo Store and participating retailers. You can also check:

These links are retailer destinations, not a guarantee of stock. Before paying, confirm the delivery estimate, pickup availability, total price, purchase limit and return policy. On marketplace listings, check both “sold by” and “shipped by”; a major retailer can host third-party sellers with different prices, returns and warranty arrangements.
How much does Nintendo Switch 2 cost?
For the United States, Nintendo has announced:
- $449.99 MSRP through August 31, 2026
- $499.99 MSRP beginning September 1, 2026
Those are U.S. prices before sales tax. The announcement concerns the Switch 2 system; other products and regions can have separate pricing and effective dates. A checkout made before September 1 is not automatically guaranteed to ship before September 1, so review the retailer’s terms and the price actually charged.

Should you buy before the price increase?
Buying before September 1 could save $50 at MSRP, provided you find an authorized seller at the advertised price and are comfortable with its delivery terms. Waiting gives you more time to compare bundles, promotions, trade-in offers and retailer policies, but Nintendo’s announced MSRP will be higher.
Do not buy an inflated marketplace listing solely to beat the deadline. The nominal $50 saving can disappear through a markup, shipping charge or poor return protection.
Base console or bundle?
Nintendo announced a Nintendo Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle at launch. Bundle availability and pricing vary by country and retailer, and a launch bundle should not be assumed to remain available in August 2026. Compare:
- Whether the game is physical or a download code
- The bundle’s total price versus the console plus a separately purchased game
- Actual stock and estimated delivery
- Return terms and any retailer purchase limit
Use Nintendo’s U.S. buying page for a current, region-appropriate listing rather than converting a Canadian or Japanese price.
What does “pre-order” mean on a current product page?
For a product that has already launched, “pre-order” can mean a later shipment, backorder, restock allocation or a particular bundle. Read the estimated ship date and cancellation language. Labels such as “out of stock,” “notify me,” “coming soon,” “backorder” and “available for pickup” are retailer-specific and do not promise the same outcome.

Digital pre-orders are generally charged no earlier than seven days before release, while physical Nintendo Store pre-purchases are charged immediately and ship after release. Those rules describe Nintendo’s product categories generally, not the original Switch 2 hardware launch reservation.

- Confirm whether the listing is in stock, a future shipment or a marketplace offer.
- Compare the checkout price, tax, shipping, pickup option and delivery date.

Switch 2 has its own accessories, including Joy-Con 2, and uses microSD Express cards for additional storage.
