Not as a separate asset. YouTube’s published monetization guidance describes revenue from eligible videos, not from creating or curating a playlist. If your own eligible video is in a playlist, it may earn Watch Page ad or YouTube Premium revenue under the usual channel, video, rights, and policy requirements. Adding someone else’s video to your playlist does not give you a documented share of that video’s revenue.
What can earn money: the video, not the playlist
YouTube defines a playlist as a collection of videos. Its Watch Page monetization guidance explains how eligible partners can earn from ads shown before, during, after, and around their videos, and from YouTube Premium viewing. It provides controls for monetizing individual eligible videos; it does not identify playlist creation or curation as a separate monetization feature.
So a playlist may organize videos and help viewers find or continue watching them, but its existence alone does not establish a right to revenue. YouTube’s public guidance does not spell out a playlist-specific ad attribution formula, so it is safer not to infer who gets paid from the fact that a video was played from a playlist.
Who may earn in common playlist situations?

Requirements for earning Watch Page ad revenue
For Watch Page ads on long-form or live videos, a channel needs to qualify for the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) level, be accepted into YPP, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module, and enable monetization for the eligible video. The video must also meet YouTube’s applicable monetization, advertiser-friendly, copyright, and rights requirements.

YPP thresholds are channel requirements
YouTube’s higher YPP threshold for Watch Page ad revenue is 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. These are channel eligibility requirements, not playlist requirements. Meeting a threshold does not by itself enroll a channel or make every video monetizable.
In eligible locations, the expanded YPP entry level is 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 valid public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 3 million valid public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. This lower level can unlock features such as memberships, Supers, and Shopping, subject to location and each feature’s rules; it does not unlock Watch Page ads. Video settings and rights still matter
After joining YPP, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module for long-form or live content and turn on ads for each eligible video in YouTube Studio. YouTube may review videos for advertiser suitability, and the creator must have the necessary rights to the video’s audio and visual elements. Being in a playlist does not bypass these conditions.
Why an ad or a view does not answer who gets paid
YouTube says earnings are based on ad revenue, but it does not guarantee whether an ad will appear on a particular playback or how much a creator will receive. Ads can also appear on content whose uploader is not eligible to share revenue. Therefore, neither a view nor an ad during playlist playback is proof that the playlist curator earned money. The relevant questions are whose video it is, whether that creator is eligible, whether the applicable terms and video settings are active, and whether the video complies with rights and policy rules.

Does this apply to a playlist of gaming videos?
Yes. The playlist’s subject—gameplay, trailers, reviews, or another topic—does not make the playlist itself a documented monetization asset. If you want to earn from a gaming video you uploaded, its channel and video must qualify under YouTube’s monetization rules, and you need the required rights. A playlist of other creators’ gaming videos does not, by itself, give you a share of their video revenue.
