If you’re seeing a Rec Room login error after June 1, 2026, it is most likely because the game’s official online service has shut down—not because your password, device, or internet connection suddenly stopped working. Rec Room ended service at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time on June 1, 2026. The company said players would no longer be able to log in or play, so reinstalling the app or changing network settings will not restore access.
Rec Room is permanently closed, not temporarily down
Rec Room announced its closure on March 30, 2026. The shutdown took effect on June 1 at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Rec Room said users would no longer be able to log in or play; its terms also state that the product would no longer be available through any platform. The closure included Rec Room’s online services, Rec Room Studio services, and rec.net. Rec Room’s shutdown announcement and its gift-card terms document the closure.
That makes a post-shutdown login failure different from an ordinary outage. The client may still open or display a login screen, but that does not mean its authentication or game servers are operating. If an old account page or cached webpage appears, it likewise does not establish that gameplay, inventory, friends, or other account features are available.

After June 1, the most likely explanation is that the client cannot contact Rec Room’s now-closed online service. The error alone does not prove that your account was deleted, your password is wrong, or your console, headset, phone, PC, or connection is defective. Rec Room’s shutdown information does not provide a post-shutdown error-code guide, so a particular code should not be treated as evidence of a fixable device problem.

New account creation and friend requests had already been disabled during the wind-down. The company’s closure notice said the service itself would end at the shutdown time. It does not establish the precise deletion status of every account or record, so it is best not to assume either that all data was deleted or that it remains accessible.
Will restarting or reinstalling fix it?
No routine troubleshooting step can bring back a discontinued online service. Restarting the game or device, reinstalling Rec Room, rebooting a router, switching Wi-Fi networks, changing DNS, disabling firewall or antivirus software, resetting a password, or trying another platform may have helped with some problems before closure. None restores the official servers after the shutdown.

A password-reset email, if the old recovery flow still responds, would not mean gameplay access has returned. Rec Room’s announcement described a reset link valid for one hour and advised users to check spam folders, but that guidance was part of the shutdown-era account process. If you need credentials for a remaining support or payment question, use only an official Rec Room channel; do not enter them on third-party recovery sites.

The published self-service refund windows have passed. Rec Room’s announcement said unused gift-card balances could be refunded through rec.net from May 1 through June 15, 2026. The gift-card terms described refund functionality for certain balances from April 23 through June 1. Rec Room also said eligible RR+ subscribers on three-, six-, and 12-month plans would receive refunds for unused subscription time. These dates and terms do not guarantee that a late claim will be accepted.

If you believe a refund is still owed or have an unresolved charge, contact Rec Room at [email protected] and retain relevant receipts and payment details. You can also ask the platform or payment provider you used whether its dispute process applies, but deadlines and remedies vary. Gift-card and consumer rules may also differ by country, so do not assume the published terms apply identically everywhere.

During the wind-down, Rec Room provided instructions for downloading photos and a final report card representing a player’s avatar. Those tools were available before closure; the announcement does not establish that they still work now. It also does not promise that photos or avatar information can still be retrieved from an online account.

Creators had a separate export option for room, invention, and cloud data. It was limited to the latest Steam PC build, was not offered on other platforms, and was intended to provide underlying data that could help with recreating experiences elsewhere—not a working offline copy of a Rec Room room. Rec Room said the export functionality would be available only until June 1, 2026, so that deadline has passed. The creator-data export notice explains those limits.
If you already have local files, they may still be useful as files, but they are not equivalent to an operational Rec Room world. Avoid unofficial extraction tools, “unlockers,” private-server downloads, or login fixes claiming to restore the official game; they are not endorsed recovery methods and may put your account information or device at risk.
Does the app being available mean Rec Room is still online?
No. An installed client or a listing in a platform library can remain visible without the service it needs to authenticate players and run multiplayer sessions. Rec Room’s terms say the product would no longer be available through any platform after shutdown. The important distinction is whether the online service is working, not whether an app icon or old login screen appears.
