Capcom says it is considering how the Resident Evil remake line will eventually catch up with the era of the numbered games, and executive producer Jun Takeuchi describes a future “crossover” as one reason for links already appearing across the series. That does not confirm a particular crossover game—or remakes of Resident Evil 5 or 6. The next confirmed remake is Resident Evil Veronica, scheduled for 2027.
Resident Evil has two tracks, not one announced remake schedule
In comments reported by GamesRadar from a Japanese magazine anniversary feature, executive producer Jun Takeuchi described the numbered games as the route for following the series’ ongoing drama, while remakes let players revisit its past. He said Capcom is considering mechanisms for the remake line to catch up to the era of the numbered titles.
That framing matters: “catch up” is not a published commitment to remake every older game in order, nor an announcement that the two tracks have already become one continuity. It is a statement about a future Capcom is thinking through.
| Track | Stated purpose | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Numbered titles | Continue the series’ ongoing drama | Takeuchi’s description, as quoted by GamesRadar |
| Remakes | Let players experience the past | Takeuchi’s description; he says the line may eventually catch up to the numbered titles |
What Takeuchi’s “crossover” comment does—and doesn’t—tell us
GamesRadar reports Takeuchi saying that preparation for a crossover has gradually been underway since Resident Evil Village. He pointed to the appearance of names such as Umbrella and Spencer and the return of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem as part of that preparation. The outlet notes that its English rendering comes from a Japanese feature and that translations vary slightly, while the general meaning is consistent.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The word “crossover” is the intriguing part, but Takeuchi’s reported remarks do not say whether it means a specific future game, a broader story connection between the two tracks, or something else. They give no format, date, or title. GamesRadar also cautions that the comments do not confirm remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6. Those remain unannounced in this account.
Resident Evil Veronica is the next confirmed remake
Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica on June 8, 2026 as a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The company says it will use RE ENGINE and preserve the original’s appeal while reimagining its story. Capcom’s announcement schedules it for 2027, but gives no exact launch date and says further details will follow.

In a June 2026 interview report, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said Code: Veronica fills gaps in the remake timeline and contemporary entries, and is as crucial to the series as a numbered title. He also said the plot will change to fit remake continuity. The report does not detail those changes, so it is too early to say exactly how this version will align with other games. Why Capcom sees remakes as part of the plan
Capcom producer Masachika Kawata has described remakes as one way to support the company’s ambition to release a Resident Evil title each year. PC Gamer reports that Kawata called producing an entirely new entry every year a difficult undertaking, and said remaking older games gives the team opportunities to challenge itself and hone its craft. That describes a goal and rationale, not a guarantee that a game will launch in every calendar year.

The series is also a major part of Capcom’s business: the company reported more than 201 million cumulative Resident Evil game sales as of March 31, 2026. In its FY2025 investor Q&A, Capcom said the series accounted for more than half of its total unit sales for the fiscal year ending that date. Those are franchise-wide figures, not evidence of remake-only revenue or profitability; Capcom did not provide a remake-specific figure in that Q&A.
